Subject: SuperChips and Pinging IP: Logged
Message: Loaded performance program with Shell V-Power 93 octane, pinged a lot starting at 3000 rpm. Loaded towing program, same thing but a little less pinging, which makes sense. Changed out plugs from Bosch plat 4 4418`s(which looked great BTW after 50k) to NGK ZFRF-11`s(still runs good, better cold idle),same result(this time with Texaco 93). The pinging would also occur momentarily going slow and goosing the throttle up. Now running 87 program with 87 octane,no pinging. Will be contacting SuperChips next to see what they say.
Also my idle still drops to 500 rpm when the temp outside temp gets to 60 degrees or warmer. Some one posted that no matter what program they ran it solved this, but not for me.
Will post what SuperChips has to say.

Message: That's alot of pinging, there should be none on 93 oct.
For me, even if I run the mid grade 89, on the perf setting, it only pinged bogging it around 1600rpm. I'm back to the 67oct setting, and 87 gas.
Did you know that my dyno only showed a 4hp difference between 87setting, on 87, and perf and 93oct? The ambient conditions nearly identical, same dyno, etc.

Message: I noticed that mine will ping when going from the 87 to the 93 programs for about a day or so. After that, it clears up and goes away.
I'm also one of the people who have had the low idle annoyance fixed by the SC. And yes, it's still fixed as long as I stay away from the stock program.

Message: I had a chance to try a SC tuner. I was running 87 octane and the only time it pinging was when accelerating lightly from 45 mph. It wasn't much of a trial but I would certainly think that 89 or 92 octane would have taken care of it.
Did you do any other mods prior to installing SC? If you did any of the sensor mods, that could explain it.

Message: I used a hypertech on my '01 5.9. Can't imagine hypertech is much differant that any others. Anyway, I have it set to the middle performance setting. Still got a little pinging at WOT, and towing required premium fuel.
I change to a 180* thermostat, and added Water Wetter. No more pinging. Even when I abuse it with a trailer, it won't ping.

Message: Thanks for the replies guys. SC just e-mailed me back asking what mods I have. Told them AirAid air filter with stock air hat. Magnaflow muffler with stock pipes. Basically stock. Told them before the tuner it would ping when it was hot and ac was running and ran 89 in summer.
Texas I was hoping the idle would not drop and for firmer shifts with the auto that you wish you had;),not for a huge HP increase. I have the 180 t-stat out for the winter maybe I should try that, but damn it pinged a lot. Hard to see myself waiting for the truck to get use to the program while my pistons melted.

Message: 106k miles now on my 2000 CC. Added SC tuner at 104k and have only gotten it to ping when having to run 87 octane due to an empty wallet while still on the Performance program. Filled with 93 octane at first chance I got after that. Those 106k miles are well driven...due to my heavy foot.
If your pinging on 93 octane then I would think you have other issues too.
