I have a 99 3.9L with gibson catback, volant cold air intake, and Venom 400 chip. I was looking into getting gibson headers and the venom V500 recluse nitrous kit. I have never worked with nitrous before and i don't know whether or not i should spend the money and risk damaging my engine. Does anyone have this kit? I don't want anything bigger or more complicated aka. easily noticable. Comments please. Also i have read in other forums about superchargers and other stuff like that for 3.9L. Are there kits out there made specifically for the V6 (i don't want to modify a v8 kit or my engine).

If you want to kill you engine go with nitrous. It will be fun till the engine goes.
If you want to walk with the big boy's (I.E a supper charger) You will need to Modify the engine. You can't just slap a supper charger on a stock engine and expect it to last.

what you could also do instead of the headers and nitrous, is get the exhaust manifolds from a '92 or'93 3.9. they flow way better than your '99 stock manifolds. probably way cheaper than headers and you would have money left over for an aftermarket hi flow Y-pipe and/or cat.

Nitrous would be fun at the track and that's about it. Not worth it in the long run. Get a supercharger or a bigger enginge if you need power. Never seen a V6 kit, because it's not worth the manufacturers time to seek SMOG approval for something that has a limited audience. Just get the V8 kit.

Isnt that one in the same? I have grenaded engines with both N2O and huffers and any engine can be built to stand up to either.
If "big dogs" have super chargers then why is the field split in IRA Pro Stock?
Honestly, I get tired of people who have never had Nitrous bashing it and shelling out that advice to others.
Nitrous is like any other power adder, if installed properly and used within the perameters it was designed it wont harm your engine any more than the alternative.

Thanks FazDak for the input, so are you saying that if i get a small nitro kit, and use small nozzles, i wont run the risk of blowing my engine. as i mentioned earlier i was looking into the Venom recluse kit (http://www.venom-performance.com/nf/html/r500.cfm). but since i have the venom 400 module, the Venom people told me that id have to only use 1 or the other, aka use the 400 for daily use and nitrious for racing. what do you think i should do. nitrous cost about $300 and a modified supercharger will cost me about $4000 (which is out of my league)

Its all relative...
What you do is use the recommended shot be it 30hp, 50hp, 75 etc.. to stay safe and not damage your engine. If you want to play with N2O jetting and want to be sure your not doing any damage simply install an air/fuel ratio meter and then you know how the respective shot is affecting your engine.
I myself bought N2O for the very reason I wanted the most performance for the least amount of money and IMO you cant beat it. I wont even lie to you and tell you its without its share of drawbacks...its a wide open power meaning it doesn't improve your drivability like turbos and some super chargers but that didnt bother me because thats the only time I wanted the power anyway. With the mods I have its just quick enough during regular driving. There is also the trip to the local bottler, that trip alone has turned a lot of people off to N2O. At first I made a trip about every 2 to 3 weeks and it got closer and closer. I ended up makin the trip once a week and sometimes 2 and at the cost it adds up quick.
If the "Venom" advances your timing then no, you dont want to run it with N2O or at least not with a shot over say 50. I have run my Mopar Performance comp with as high as 100 shot but I used Sunoco 94 and N2O octane booster. Still dont recommend that though.

The kit that im looking at says that its build in microcomputer handles it

It also says that i pick the nozzle size, it does not reference by shot, so i don't know how much horses im giving my engine, it seems like a fool proof system doesn't it

Too "fool proof" for me. I like to know how things are working that I put together. Theres no way I'd run an N2O system based on what they have told you. I would have to have an idea what "nozzle" does what. Thats just me.

Had a nitrous set up for a couple years. It was fun on the track. Beyond the track nitrous is a real "so what" to me. Got expensive to me refilling that bottle all the time. Take care of your solenoids if you do it. Be very careful securing your lines.

I'm with you Faz, the N2o is pure $hit-eatin' grin from ear to ear!
I have not tried to use it on a Dakota or even a V6 at that. My Uncle builds race engines (Chebby 350's) for Corpus Christi International Speedway. He had a 70's Chevelle w/Nitro and it was "Pure unadulterated Adrenaline!" Until the big Kablooey comes.
He has a modified shortbed (used to be stepside) with glass fenders & a Fuel/Alcohol mix burning 750hp Chevy 350, shorty axle w/24 wides on rear. It is "Sorta" legal & has this purty little blue bottle of "whoop a$$" behind the seat. You wanna talk about FUN! I Guarantee it will pass ANYTHING but a gas pump!
N20 is fun! but very expensive fun. Bottles are expensive and so are detonated engines.
My Opinion: DON'T! Unless you have deep pockets and a back-up vehicle. N2O is worse than crack!

One question comes to mind, are you actually going to race the truck? If not, then nitrous is kinda pointless. If so, then go for it, theres kits you can get and as long as you don't give your engine too much, you'll be fine.

Nitrous is a chemical supercharger. Superchargers feed more oxygen to your cylinders in order to allow more fuel to burn. Superchargers and turbos do it by compressing the incoming air, notrous does it by injecting oxygen rich notrous oxide into your intake air.
Most smaller nitrous kits have a switch that activates only when the throttle is pressed all the way to the floor; not a whole lot of fun unless you're balls-out racing. You might be able to rig up some sort of fogger switch that you can use at will, on the fly for showing off and doing burnouts around corners and such.
75 horse is about as high as you'd want to go in a stock v6 before you need to put in forged pistons.
