Subject: Good 5 speed?

Message:
Anybody know a good 5 speed that would bolt up relitively easy to a 360 magnum crate engine? Going to upgrade the crappy 4cyl. I was thinking about the Dodge Ram trannys I think they made a 5 speed right? I need somthing that can handle a good amount power, from 400-700hp. Might go from the stock 380hp to a bunch higher when I convert to twin turbo in the future after that. What are some thoughts? If they are real expensive than I will settle for a lesser transmission like from the Rams. What about the Kiesler? I think they are around the $5,000 when fitted correct?
Shoot me some thoughts guys!
Thanks,
Ratfink

Your best bet for a street driver is a Tremec 600. Check out www.fortesparts.com for more info on the trans.

Adapting it to the Dodge is where the fun comes in. Since dodge made a truck 5 speed it's possible to find the correct flywheel, pressure plate, clutch linkage, etc.

The bellhousing will be tricky, but that's where Kiesler comes in.

When you hit 700hp in a 4,000# vehicle, keeping the trans and rear alive is going to be tough. Even the Tremec will not last long if you abuse it. You might consider stepping up to the Richmond OD. More expensive, but may live longer. Next step up from that would be a planetary $$$$$$$$

Pay attention to the diff. The corporate 9.25 won't last long at those levels. Have Moser or National Drivetrain build you a 9" Ford and driveshaft.

If this is strictly for racing, consider a built 46RE from APS or Martin Saine. They can be built to handle just about anything you can throw at it. Cost would be anywhere from 1800-3500 depending on what you get. Like Bob said, you will also need a new axle, the 8 3/4 you have now wont last long with a lot of power behind it.
