Subject: What should I do...? IP: Logged
Message: I am SERIOUSLY considering upgrading the top end of the engine in my '02 QC 4.7L 4x2. It's not really a matter of "if" but "when". The truck has 83,*** miles on it. Haven't had a moments trouble with it...yet, knock on wood. I would like some suggestions on what all I should do to it and what parts to use and where to purchase them. I know I want cams and HO intake, but what cams should I get, the HO's or something else. Also, would it be worth my while to replace my stock 68mm TB? If yes, which one? And last but not least, should I replace RR's or not? If yes, with which ones? Thanks everyone so much. I am new to this forum but I have been reading everyones' posts for a while and I like to info I read on here. Thanks again.

Message: First question is what are you going to do with it? Daily commuter, towing/hauling, drag racer, in town vs. high speed freeway, etc. Each application requires a differant approach.
Trans? Gears? Non-stock tires?

Message: If you treat the engine well it should last another 83,000 miles at least.
But if you want to change the top end for more giddy-up i would go with a GOOD intake system, larger throttle body, HO cams, the maybe head work, improve the exhaust system.

Message: This is and will continue to be a daily driver and tow\hauler and occasional weekend track runner. It does currently have a single in\dual out Flowmaster on it. Sounds great, probably not great for power though. It is an automatic with the 3.55 open differental. Has slightly larger than stock street tires. 255\70\16's....I think.

Message: Throw a posi 4.10 rear on first. That will keep you happy until the other stuff is added. You won`t regret it(may whine a little though). That 4.7 loves to rev first and foremost, fits your needs perfect too.

Message: I was thinking about doing the 4.10's first myself. Any suggestions on brands and where to get them. How hard are they to put in?

Message: Yukon seems to be one of the better brands; that's what I'm going with. You probably want the HO cams, if towing i wouldn't think you'd want much more radical than that. The newer Daks use the same intake manifold as the HO, wasn't the '02 manifold was a decent one ?

Message: I thought the intake manifolds from the '03s and up were better than the '02s?

Message: Quite possible, wasn't sure exactly what year the change was. I'm still happy with the low rpm style manifold that came on my '00; I wonder if that's why I sometimes hear the claim that 5.2 is torquier than the 4.7 down low. I tow with my 4.7 and find the low rpm torque with that manifold to be pretty good.
