Subject: could not hook up worth a ***t IP: Logged
Message: went to the races this weekend in my 4 dor 4.7 with the 5 speed. and i could not hook up i had to drop it at 2,000 to get any traction with some wheel hop. i tried to take off like i do on the street at 3500 but did nothing but spin through 1st and all the way through 2nd. and still ran a 18 in the 1/4. but at 2,000 i was able to get down to 16.92 i think i will try 4 hi next time to see if i can get a better take off. my buddie who ran a 16.5 at the track i would stomp on the street so i know i can run faster. any info will help

Message: traction bars will only enhance the traction of the existing tires on the truck. they wont help much with street tires inflated to spec. look, it's a truck. it's light in the back by nature. if youre gonna run street tires, then find a brand that sticks good after a burnout. nittos are good for that. now, take those nittos and drop the air pressure to 20 to 24 lbs. at the line, hold about 1000 to 1500 rpms to preload the leaf springs. experiment with a mash of the gas or feathering the throotle for best results. better yet, just get yourself some drag radials or all out racing slicks.

Message: What were your 60' times? Try feathering the clutch next time instead of just dumping it from 2000.

Message: It is all in the tires!!! When I had my 235/75/15's on my 96 reg cab 318 I had tons of wheels spin at the start and i was running high 15's and the truck is pretty much stock. When i put on some newer 15X8 wheels with 255/60/15 kelly charger's I now can hook up real good even when I mash it (automatic). I ran a 14.9 at the track last week. Took off a second on the 1/4. What kind of tires are you running???

Message: I run a 14.0 1/4 in my 2000 4.7 and have no wheel hop. I used a set of helper springs mounted in front of the axle. For about $30 you can get a set of these and I think you will be very happy. They eliminate the wheel hop I know you get in the rain. Cheap and easy. I run 275/60/15 Firestones, 18psi when at the track.

Message: In this case "High Performance" doesn't mean it will perform well at the track. Usually, M&S rated tires don't do well. Looks like it is rated quite high in all respects, but those rating won't help you.
