Subject: New Plugs being tested IP: Logged
Message: Tonight I saw on the Fox news here in the Triad area (Greensboro, NC) that there was a company out of the Czech Republic is testing a new spark plug that lowers emissions as-well-as raises fuel economy. The plug is supposedly being tested in the Raleigh/Cary market here in NC and also in Arkansas. A mechanic at a repair shop was testing the plugs on his own car. He said that after only 2,000 miles that the CO emissions had dropped to almost zero, yes zero. He also stated that his Yukon went from getting 17.1 MPG to about 19.4! I know that some of these numbers change based on driving conditions and so on, but isn't that a huge positive change? They said that the plug is supposed to burn about 30% hotter (not always better) but with that it burns more fuel. I know that this is kind of stating the obvious and this is what we strive for, but has anyone heard of this product or something similar? I know you don't always believe what you hear, but that's why I brought it here to see what you all though. They didn't give the company name or product name, but it looks good.

Message: Sounds great but keep in mind, they are trying to sell a product at some point in the future. Misinformation is great for making a company take off and stock soar. They'll kiss your butt to get some money out of you if they have to.
Sounds almost too good to be true.

Message: I agree, but didn't know if anyone had heard of this product and/or something similar. I don't think I would buy this, but might, have to see real proof, over time...

Message: As I recall present plugs run at 750 degrees give or take a few in a hot engine this temp. is needed to keep the plugs from fouling > a 30 % increse brings that to 975 degrees > now were talking glo plugs > talk about detonation > My numbers may not be right on but the results are correct > Droping your plugs by one number in heat range is a very small change really > 30% is out a sight

Message: Newer dedign "high tech" spark plugs are available in the USA right now. Check out the following web sites:
http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/
http://www.haloplug.com/
Larry from J and J Auto on the v6 board highly recommends the Halo Sparkplugs.
I happen to see the e3 plugs advertised in the back of Popular Mechanics.
I ordered a set for my v6 dakota.
92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

Message: Everytime there's a gas crunch wierdos come out of the woodwork with new gadgets. Anyone remember the super secret carburators that GM has hidden away. Rumors during the '80s had it that they could get 50 mpg. Back then everyone had a gadget that was going to make huge improvements in economy and power.
Don't worry, all of them disappear when concerns over prices disappear. In the maintime they will continue to make money off the suckers.

Message: I'm with OBIO3 on this one.
What about PRE detonation?
People run them just hot enough to keep them form fouling. TOO hot, BOOM.
High Compression engines have to run COLDER plugs.
Sounds like a scam!
