Message: The engine light keeps coming on and reads I need a throtle control sensor. I was told when they looked at it that keeping my gas cap tight it will elimate the problem...engine light is still there. I have a 2002 dakota sxt 3.9L, only mods I have is a flowmaster exhaust. another problem is a low speeds if I step on the gas...it does not excellerate very fast and sometimes wont downshift. would a supercharger solve my speed problems??

Message: Replace the TPS (throttle Position sensor). If the CEL comes on, and the P code says something to the effect of the throttle conrol sensor, then replace the TPS. This would explain the reason your truck isn't down shifting. THe TPS sends data to the computer to tell it when it you are requesting more throttle (power), so it in turn will tell the tranny to down shift and to add more fuel to allow you to accelerate faster.
The tranny will not down shift if you are going too fast for a particular gear, but you should accelerate somewhat quickly even without the down shift.
