and damn some of these chicks are just. mmmm, mmmm

ok, anyway, back to reality, i was looking at the rear axles on my 1990 dakota sport and the rear axles on my 1995 v8 donor truck, and everything measures the same and looks the same, so if there is a difference is it jsut the ring and pinion OD size?

im assuming i have a 8.25, but seeing as the sports came with larger 28" tire i think they might have gone with a 3.9 gear to compensate. so is the only difference the ring gear size?

i have a million things i have to figure out when i do my swap, this beeing where im starting, planning on what needs to be done

Should both be 8.25 rearends and your 95 should work fine in a 90. The 3.92 gear was an option you had to order extra. It wasn't standard equip on any Dak. You can spin the yoke and count the turns to come up with the gear ratio. i.e. If the yoke turns approx. 3-1/2 turns for the wheels to turn once you have 3.55 gears. A little less than 4 turns on the yoke equals 3.92 gears. Make sure when you do this that both wheels turn equally or you reading will not be correct.

ill prolly end up leaving the old axles in place, that makes it much easier, the T-case is the same, i might swap it out jsut becuase the 95 t-case has 70k less miles on it so i might jsut change it all and leave the axles and drive shaft, besides then i dont have to do extra work to use my AR-39 rims

Is the axle tag still there? Should be wrapped around the left side axle tube, printed with the ratio and 'Trac-Lok', if so equiped.
