Subject: Now owner, NEEDS Info! IP: Logged
Message: Just purchased '00 QC 4.7 4x4, 44,000mi. Love the truck, but looking to do some low cost mods. Thinking about a home made intake w/K&N filter, Autolite platnums, Mobil 1 oil. Can anyone suggest a tranny fluid and rear end oil. I have a 4spd auto and 3.92 gears. Also, how do I deal with an overly SQEAKY suspension. New poly bushings?

Message: some low cost mods would include, Intake, as you described, Exaust,
some other mods that really help out but may be a little more trouble to put in, and a little more cost would be the HO cams, they really help out, and maybe a Better Throttle Body, but remember if you get a really big TB, you will lose low end but gain Mid to Top end, if you do alot of towing, get just the HO cams, because big TB won't help as much.
if you add mods together, like Intake + TB, you can get pretty good HP gains, and the HO cams, and maybe some headers can help also, but I have heard that the Headers don't help that much on the 4.7.
hope I helped a little
MY Dak,
2001 Club Cab 4x4 5-speed ManualHD, 3.55 Rear
HO cams, Gibson Shorties, KN FIPK, F&B 70 mm TB, Flowmaster 40 series.

Message: I don't know if it helps on the 4.7 but u should try the underdrive pulley kit, it helped on my v6. You can also try B&M Quick shift fluid, but Royal Purple makes about every kind of lubricant you would ever need. Besides they have said it increases hp at the wheels!

Message: DEFINITELY disconnect the Torque management it it is and automatic. You wont BELIEVE how much this wakes up your trans shifting characteristics...email me at gotitbad@bellsouth.net for more info, or do a search on here for it.

Message: The squealy suspension is caused by the poly bushings. Remove them, clean everything really well, and apply a syhtetic grease, like Mobile 1 wheel bearing lube. Poly bushings MUST use a synthetic grease. Standard petroleum products destroy the poly. If they continue to squeak after that, it probably means the previous owner use petroleum grease, and you'll have to replace them.

Message: Bite the bullet and change out everything for 100% synthetic fluids while the truck has low mileage. Do a search here, oil is a hot topic that's fiercly debated...
Tranny fluid, either ATF+4 from the stealership or Amsoil Universal ATF, don't use anything else or you could have tranny problems. Your owners manual might say ATF+3, heck it's what the truck was probably filled with at the factory, but the dealer will only warranty the tranny if ATF+4 is used during services.
Engine oil, Eh' what ever flavor of "true full synthetic" oil you like. Beware, there are a lot of oils out there claiming to be full synthetic when they are not. Look up some posts from the Amsoil Sponsor, he may be redundant and sometimes quite overwhelming, but he has some good info. Mobil 1, Amsoil, Poyal Purple,,,
Diff lube,,, same thing,,, what ever synthetic flavor you like,,,
Power steering fluid??? Look at it, it's probably nasty. Change it out with synthetic fluid while your at it. I used Amsoil Universal ATF for P/S fluid in my 00 CC and 03 QC without problems. After 60K the stuff was like new in my 00 CC's P/S system.
In my 00 CC I ran Mobil 1 in the engine and rear diff, Amsoil in the tranny and P/S pump. Synthetic fluids didn't prevent a blown tire and totalled truck though ;-(
In my 03 QC I am running Amsoil 5w40 in the engine, Universal ATF in the tranny, 75W140 in the rear diff and Universal ATF in the P/S pump.
BTW, Amsoil's website has a breakdown of fluid capacities for your truck. Even if you don't use Amsoil you can find out how much it takes to service the engine, tranny, diff, etc.
