Subject: I just want to know........ IP: Logged
Message: I was traveling home from work in my dakota, and this Ram 2500 was riding my ass, so I dumped the clutch and took off, I got to about 90-100 and he was gaining on me, slowly but shortly, we were going up a double lane hill, is the reason he was gaining on me because he had a 360 ( not a cummins), with low gears? or did he have something else under the hood? I let off and hit the brakes, because there was this hiding spot for cops coming up, and I didn't want to risk it. I let him pass.
2001 Dakota Club Cab 4x4 5-speed 4.7L 3.55 rear.
HO cams, KN FIPK, 70mm FB TB, Gibson Shorty headers, Flowmaster 40 series. 32 inch Muds.
I would have beaten him on flat ground, but I was just curious. please respond, but don't get pissed because it is another racing thread. He was Riding my ass, and I wanted to get away from him.

Message: There's no way for us to know what's under his hood; but if you couldn't beat him uphill, there's not much reason to believe you could beat him on the flat. You might want to consider lower gears to go with your taller tires.

Yup, that's what the guy told the cops when he tried to outrace my ambulance instead of pulling over.
If he was riding your ass, he wanted to get away from YOU. Letting him by would have accomplished what you *said* you wanted. Your actions indicate you just wanted to race. So why not be honest and admit it?

Message: the thing is, I was beating him, I was 3 or 4 car lengths ahead of him, I just started losing Top end going up the hill, and he started picking up. I have beaten plenty of reg cab 360 2500s to know what they have, I have beaten plenty of 1500s with 360s also, but I always have raced them on flat ground, never going up hill,
and the cop blind spot was coming up, and I hit the brakes. I know that the 70 mm TB doesn't help going up hills either, and the gears Igot are pretty high.
I was in 4th gear going about 95, my top speed is about 120, and I know if he had really low gears, his would be about 100.
but anyway, I'd say Screw Dakotas, I am getting either a Ford Lighting, god forbid, or a Chevy Silverado SS, or a Ram SRT-10, (if I was a millionaire). hell why not get a Ram with a hemi.

Message: blah, blah, blah. I floor it too, just to get people of my ass, not just to race. If the guy really want to pass, why wasn't he in the other lane? he said it was a double lane, and the guy was on his ass, so he had to have been in the same lane.
it could be that you have a 4X4, which equals more rotating mass. even with the 4 wd off, you still have more weight, and it still spins part of it too, which ends up as parasitic loss, I do agree, that if you couldn't beat him up hill you couldn't of done it on flat land though.

Message: he got into the right lane, when I was in the left lane, like I said, He was gaining slowly, and he was pretty far back, HE didn't beat me because I let off, He would've probably reached his limiter when I got above 100, I just couldn't risk getting my truck impounded,
he had a 2001ish 2500 with a lift and dual pipes, it was an extended cab, he had a 360, not a cummins, a cummins I would understand, and it was 4x4.
I know I have more HP and Tourqe than a stock 2500, and like I said, I have beaten plenty of trucks like it, that wouldn't want a piece, I have even raced a cummins too, maybe my truck is just wore out

Message: Wouldn't a stock 2500 have a 5.9 or a hemi ? That's a heavier truck, but I don't think your mods will give you more torque than either of those motors.

Message: it wasn't a Hemi, it was a 360, and i figure I have about the same as a stock 360, they only have 335 TQ, but he is getting it at a low rpm,
thus, me going up the hill, I will lose Top end, and he will get more low end.
with my TB, I get only mid to top end.

Message: How do you know it was a 360? If you didn't see the V8 badge, then it could've been a modded V10. If not I would think it had a blower or a 408. There's one around here with a Kenne Bell that runs pretty good for what it is.
