Message: technically, its illegal to remove or modify the cats in anyway, technically... "fed laws prohibit the removal, rendering inoperative, or modifying any device or element of design which affects emmisions or safety." BLAH, Blah, blah, more govt B.S.
as far as anyones concerned, as long as you don't have emmision testing in your area, you'll be fine, if you do, you won;t even get to the actual test, they'll fail you on visual. IF you do remove, you may end up having to reinstall if you ever trade it in. so far as the OBDII system works, you shouldn't trip any O2 codes, as those are upstream... hack it off, you should be fine, just don't be surprised IF you end up with more exhaust fume smells.

Message: I live in Virginia, Rural Virginia, I doubt they have emission testing,
I already replaced the 2 little cats at about 65000 miles though, they would rattle when I would downshift.
what mod could have caused this?
headers?
Throttle Body? (for some odd reason)>?

Message: In my county it TX, they have all the testing, but, if you have an OBD2 car/truck, they just hook up and look for any codes.
I've had my third cat relocated (to a dumpster), and no codes, passes emissions, and NO funny smell.
I was told it's only for start up gasses. I do know it has a fine mesh screen across the pipe!
It's louder, not obnoxious like all the trucks here in tx with 'cat backs'.
