Message: Ditto to what Jay says.
The 4.7 V8 makes like 260 Ft Lbs by just over 2,000 RPM's. I don't even think the 4.0 V6 makes that by 5K RPM's!
And you realize the grunt when you tow something like I did this weekend. 7,000 Lbs running at 2200 RPM's grunting. That Frontier would NEVER be able to tow what I do.
They can take them PEAK HP numbers and shove them somewhere else. I hate how every 6 months some Taco or Frontier guys finds this in a search and brags about them ADVERTISED horse power numbers.

Message: Yeah. I'd still be towing that 7,000 #'s with the 3.55's. But just NEVER using overdrive and having more difficulty accelerating. But doable I am sure as dakotacam just posted.

Message: not only that, but the 318 gets the same torque band as a stock 4.7. obviously more if modified. the 4.0L nissan gets the same gas milage as the 4.7/5.2L dodge. so why get it? the peak torque is 284ftlbs@4000rpm. my 318 gets 300ftlbs at 3200rpm. im still getting 260ftlbs at 2000rpm according to chrysler. i would love to play tug-a-war with one of those pu$$y azz frontiers. even with my 3.55's(urgh!)

Message: Has anyone here cared to bend down and look at the drive train in a Titan, kinda scary that the differentials look like something they borrowed from The Camaro of recent years. I'll keep my HEMI, thank you very much. And as far as rolling excelleration stock for stock, HEMI vs. Titan, I'm still ontop.

Message: i should also mention that my local boat ramp is steep and slippery, no slippage and i don't go over 3k rpm's when pulling out. also i have 265/70 a/t duelers, that helps w/ traction ,but actually decreases the torque a little bit, i get props from people at the boat ramp, who gather just to see if the ole' girl will pull it out. been thinking of a f250 or full size dodge, but i love my dak so much i don't want to get rid of it, so going for more upgrades, the only thing is it squats about 3 inches so i don't like to tow long distances, but have towed it over 100 miles 3 times with no problems, going to get a r.a.s for the squat so that will help....wish i could show you guys a pic of this boat behind my truck, it dwarfs it.
also on the overdrive thing , i don't use it as it will 'burn up, so i hear. and on that note if you are in overdrive, don't switch over at speed , slow way down or stop then hit the button.. i learned this the hard way...back in the day i had an eclipse and used to switch back and forth at speed for more power, and it f-ed it all up.

Message: I drop my OD all the time at speed. Even to give some ENGINE BRAKING as I slow down.
The 5-45RFE is truley a different breed compared to the other OD ones they modified form the older auto's.
As for sagging get some Firestone Air Bags.
No sagging what so ever once you install those things.
The 4.7 and 5.2 are similar in power bands, except the 4.7 runs 500 RPM's longer stock yet with the same low eng grunt. Kinda nice to run it out a little bit more when passing on a hill :)

Message: good info GraphiteDak, i still am wary about switching over , just b/c the manuel says to tow in non-o/d, but you have a lot of mods so it may work for you.
as far as the airbags vs. the r.a.s going to start a new thread to get some other info, no offense as you always give good advice. by the way been to your website...kicks a$$. i don't have your engineering skills but it's fun to look at your mods.

Message: You should be pleased with the r.a.s., that's what I use. Good for some extra capacity, but doesn't seem to ride as stiff as the add a leafs I've used on other trucks.

Message: Might want to think twice before using air bags. That was my thoughts also but a great friend that owns an RV place told me there a bad idea. He will not install a set unless the owner signs a responsability release. They put the work (weight) on the frame right over the axle and the frames have a bad habit of breaking. FORDS are the worst according to him .As an example one guy with a brand new ford insisted it was a good idea so signed the release. First trip out(vavation) the frame busted on a corner. He managed to hold the road and get it home but nobody would fix the frame and guarentee it would hold even under normal conditions because of where it broke right over the axle. He had it fixed and turned it in on another new truck. Something to think about
So many problems .... So little time

Message: Well I could see that happening expecting to add 5,000 Lb capacity like the air bags say "up to" but I doubt it would hurt much more than what air shocks could do. These Firestones are bolted pretty solid. They just ASSIST the load.
I was always told air bags as the way to go. Hmm....
