Subject: Auburn "posi" IP: Logged
Message: Anyone have any experience with ebay vender Gears Are Us ? They list our 9 1/4 "posi" carrier as new, able to accept tone ring; for a good couple hundred $$ less than any other vendor I've seen. Anything to watch out for here ?

Message: While they don't specifically mention "Trac Lok", other vendors do with what appears to be the same carrier. They say it compares with the stock part listed for around $500. Other vendors seem to price in $400 range; they're about $170. From what I've read, it appears there are only 2 stock options - the open rear I have now, or the Auburn "posi" Trac Lok. Lots of confusion since no on seems to call them "sure grip" as mopar does; but I can't find any info to suggest "Trac Lok" is not the stock Auburn "posi". I've seen descriptions at other vendors using Auburn "posi" and "Trak Lok" together in the same description for their carrier; as if it is 2 terms for the same thing. I know the stockers can wear out if abused, but not looking for serious track use; just an upgrade while the rear will be worked on anyways to go to a gear change for heavier towing. Any insight is apreciated.

Message: Oops - mopar no longer calls this stuff "sure grip" - that was the muscle car era term (at least one style of which was also Auburn), now they call it LSD or trac lok.

Message: yeah the unit in our trucks is made by Dana and called a Trac Lok. Like shevy has thier Positraction.
An actual auburn unit would be a lot stronger than a Trac Lok.

Message: Auburn is actually a better than stock aftermarket LSD. Dodges lsd's are made by Dana and from what I understand are all the same for 9 1/4 rears from the 60's to current. Don't go with the Dodge unit. I'm looking in to a replacement for my anti spin which is now just as good as an open rear. At just 80K mostly easy highway miles! The Auburn seems to be the lsd of choice from what I've been reading from several sources. The other option is the powertrax locker, but I don't think I want that.
