Message: PRPLE, ITS NOT ONLY A RT PROBLEM, MY 5.2 DONE THE SAME THING, TEMP SOLUTION FOR MINE WAS A THINNER GRADE OIL, WENT FROM 20-50 DOWN TO 10-30. ALSO WHEN STARTING, LET THE BELLS AND WHISTLES GO OFF BEFORE YOU TURN THE SWITCH ALL THE WAY. IT WORKED FOR ME. NOW ITS ALL O-TAY

Message: What's the chances your running a cheap filter Such as fram > They got junk releif valves in them and let your oil drain down while sitting a spell > Till it pumps up no oil circulates > I'd go with a quality filter change before I got involved with the engine

Message: I had the same problem - running Mobil 1 10-30 with Fram filters. After doing some research on this site, I used the same brand and weight of oil with a Hastings filter - problem solved. Buy a better filter! I won't say Hastings is the best but according to the research that I did, it was one of several that were head and shoulders above the others.

Message: Could be a sticking lifter, that will usually go away like you said, once it has filled with oil. You could try an oil additive, most auto stores have it and claim to quiet noisy lifters.

Message: try a oil system flush. if its oil related itll help... mine had a somewhat similar rattle, turned out it was the heat shield for the muffler under the bed, a tricky lil bugger, as it actually sounded like it was coming from the engine, go figure.

Message: Hey prple-gaseatr how much better does that ported kegger run than stock keg? Give me some details on it. I have one lying around I'm thinking of modifying. I think I have chose against the M-1. Thanks! Also sorry to hear about the bad crank and bearings, but it is still under warranty thats good.-later-

Message: hey dennis,
the ported kegger will give very similar results to the m1, i did an m1 on my buddy's truck and a kegger on mine and they were too close to tell apart. email me at avengerguy@comcast.net, i have some piks of the kegger if you need some, or i can also do it too if your interested.
