Subject: Hwy raced a tundra IP: Logged
Message: This 0500, driving to work, 25mi S of HOuston, secluded, flat, no side street/ramps, divided hwy, he passed me doing about 80, I was going about 75. No traffic except us, I caught him, dropped it into 3rd (manual 3.55)and he wouldn't bite. Did it again right beside him, still no bite. Put it in 4th, easing off, and wouldn't you know it, he bit. I left it in 4th(manual 3.55 LSD)and from 80 to 120, dead stinkin even.
At about 120, either he has a speed limiter, or he let all the way off the gas, and no, we still didn't catch anybody yet, just us. I didn't use the key trick, I used to have the 115 limiter, and now it's Superchips, which raises the speed limiter, to what, I don't know. I think he may have had a few simple mods too. He probably has a shorter rear end than I do, and the Tundra's 4.7, puts out 285hp, and it was a 2WD, like my Quad cab. He is about a thousand or so heavier than me too.
If I could have started it in third, I would have edged him, but 120+ in 4th, is still over 5 grand even with the 3.55 rear end.
01, Quad cab (heavy ass SLT model, with full mag spare, cab high leer shell, chrome bumpers-slt, Trailer towing group, etc.)
4.7, HO cams, HO intake, HOmebrew 'true' CAI w/K&N filter, ported 68mmTB, autolite 3923's, 180 t-stat, NO stink'n belt driven clutch fan, and relocated third main cat(to the dumpster), mobil 1, and a Superchips on Perf. setting w/93oct gas.
5spd manual, 3.55LSD, tire and handling pack, trailer towing, MOnroe reflex x 4,
and Offspring CD on my infinity sound system.

Message: You might have edged him if you shifted in OD just before 5k. You would have been put right back into Your powerband again.
Well i have an auto and when my third gear gets up around 5100 is just sucks. Its creaps up slowly. As soon as i hit my first OD it just takes off again till i let off.
I wish i could have only have my third gear shift at 4900 or so. I have the same mods as you except the stupid third cat still.

Message: The "key trick" is used to disable the speed limiter (supposedly, haven't done it myself). When you get close to the limiter cutting in, turn the key to the start position and hold it there (starter will not engage when in gear), and the limiter is not supposed to cut in. Note that you do lose guages, and have one hand on the key at 100+ mph...

Message: Todd, you are saying WITH mods you were just even with his?
Oh, and is yours a 4WD? I don't remember.
Why would a Tundra be heavier? Is it?

Message: Graphite,
No no, mines LSD, 2wd.
That's why I say i think he has some mods, cause I've done it with a few others and pulled away no problem. Mine is a very heavy version of the QC

...Until your steering wheel locks up at 120 mph and away you go

Message: I wouldn't do the key trick. But it does NOT lock your wheel.
It just kills your gauges and probably puts your controls into "open loop" mode for all we know.
I wonder if installing a digital pulse divider inline with the speed sensor would be a better idea. You would have to know something about digital electronics and it would cause your speedo to display slower than you are going. But it would be better if someone was bypassing the speed limiter without being able to get a PCM flash.
actually, instead of a divider, all you would need is somthing to switch the pulses from the sensor to a pulse generator with the frequency equalling say 110 MPH no matter how much faster you go.
If I were to do that in my Dak, at least I'd still have my GPS to tell me my speed in my in dash computer setup.
I haven't messed with the speed sensor in our dak's, but I've MADE a electric speedometer form scratch before into an older car.
