Subject: MY ANTI-SPIN IS SPINNING!! IP: Logged
Message: WTF with the truck! It now seems that I need to either rebuild my Anti-spin rear on my '00 QC or go with an aftermarket replacement. I know it's fairly common, but I drive mostly highway miles and I wouldn't think that at 80K miles (and regular service)my rear would be shot! But it seems to be par for the course with this POS truck! What have you guys done with your rears? I obviously don't want the crap Dodge parts put back in! Any good aftermarket alternatives?

Unless its a locker, your wheels will still spin separate. Otherwise you wouldn't turn very well.
How did you check it?

Message: Geeze! I'm always leary of posting questions here. I wonder why??
In anycase, thanks "ewraven" for the link. I was thinking about the Auburn LSD, but since I'm pulling it all apart I may consider a locker.
"Brian C", Dodge calls their LSD an "anti-spin" axle. That's exactly what I stated that I have. I'm no novice to mechanics(I used to be one), but I probably should state it every time I post a question since I think most on this board are barely capable of changing their own oil (no offense meant). And yes it seems the clutch pack is slipping, that is why I need to either rebuild it or replace it. I do know how to test it, but I didn't need to seeing how only one wheel is spinning on ice and the other is perfectly still while a howl is coming from my dif.. My 20+ years in mechanics tells me that my clutches are slipping, WHICH, I might add seems to be common with the DODGE! I did search and all I find are complaints about Anti-spin rears going at as early as 30K miles. My intent here is to see what others have done to fix their failing ANTI-SPIN rear axles. Nothing came up in the search. Thanks in advance.

Message: my rear has done that too. when i had my mech. put my 4.10s in i asked him he said they were fine. you may need more friction than ice could provide. i was worried once like that then i put it on some pavement and muds both tires spun on both surfaces.

figgols, I had the same problem with my antispin axle at 90,000 miles. I had the mechanic install a better aftermarket replacement(i think auburn?) and now at 120,000 miles all is still good.
this sight seems to be going down the tubes with all of the useless posts & repsonses lately. Too bad!

Message: Figols,
I think you are right about some people not being able to change their own oil. Thats why I asked to make sure you knew for sure that it was bad. This has come up before where people were expecting a locker type rearend instead of the limited slip that they have.
There is no indication in your first post that you were a mechanic, so I appoligize for stating the obvious. I dont know what the other peoples deal is with their comments.
As far as answering your question, I have had some experience with both dodge and chevy rearends, and I would say your best bet is an aftermarket unit. Auburn makes a very reputable product line.
If you dont want to spend alot of money, you could probably pull one out of a low milage wrecked truck.

Message: Intense, thats awesome. I had that in mind with a cutlass sitting in my driveway just to mess with. Do people just stick the spider gears together where they contact, which is visible once you pull the cover?

Message: Randy/Intense, If you're going to weld your spider gears, spend a few bucks for a spool and do it right. You'll save yourselves a little weight and won't have to worry about the welds. Just remember either way your truck will no longer be suitable for street. You are effectively creating a single solid axel. One tire MUST break loose in order to turn a corner with that setup.
