This really sucks, I have a 2002 sport w/ the 4.7 auto and 3.55 gears (Clubcab)and i was just stomped on by my sisters 2001 grand am gt ram-air 4 DOOR!We were heading out to a family event and i was buggin the sis about her piece o crap, and she offered to race just outside the small town i live in, never thought i would ever hear that come from her mouth but neadless to say away we went. We lined up on the road and hit it, I had her for about 2 seconds off the line then she started pulling up and past me and never looked back. We went to about 105 mph and she was at least 2-3 car lengths ahead at that time.So now i hang my head very low. Are these cars faster than i thought? And Yes her car is bone stock. This sucks!!! I am tempted to check these cars out on the net to see what is up.

My wife used to have a 2000 Grand Am GT 2 door and it was way faster than i thought it would be when i first bought it for the misses, fast enough that i was curious enough to take it and my 99 R/T to the local track and the car was getting an average of 15.3- 15-5 area with 3 passes. I believe they have 175 hp/210ft/lb torque and only weight 3000 lbs so it is concievable. But i will have to agree that would totally be embarrassing to lose to your sis. Was your truck 2x4 or 4x4

As far as mods go.. nothing but a cold air intake.Just for the record I can drive and thats not the issue,I have pissed around with the truck enough to know how to launch and after that just hold the go pedal down. The truck has been running great and there havn't been any problems in the past.? All i can say for sure is that the GT really seemed to pull hard once it got into its revs.The worst part of this is how cocky i was and the look on my face had to have been priceless as it went by slowly but surely. My foot print i'm sure is embedded into the floor.I guess i forgot how heavy this truck is vs the 3000 pound Grand Am. When i do the math (hp/Weight) it all adds up to a kill for her. I guess that means a few mods for the near future.Dam this still burns me.

I can relate some what, About 2 years ago my little brother bought a 96 or 97 T-bird with a 4.6 in it, the previous owner had completed a few mods unknown to me ie cold air,swapped 3.08 gears for 3.73,shift kit and the computer retuned,really nothing super major but enough for him to get better times at the track than me. He was getting 15.2s consistantly and I was at 15.37 for a best and a 15.52 for the worst run.Now I never hear the end of it! Maybe head to head I could get him. That car came with around 225 hp and the torque??? but it weighs alot less so. Stupid fat truck.Just kiddin.

My truck is a 02 sport 4.7rc 2wd auto with a 3.55 gear with a few mods. I actually went to a grand am site to just check it out.(GAGT.com) The guys that are fixin em up are getting them to haul pretty good ass. At least they are an American car rather than a Honda,Nissan etc.

I hope that is'nt going to be what it takes to beat the Grand am. About an hr and a half ago I pried the keys from my sisters hands a took it for a rip and... it goes good! Nothing really there untill 2800-3000 rpm and then it really pulls hard to around 5600-5700 and shifting at the 6000 range. I hate to say it but i was impressed for a 4 door family car with an auto,still can't tow or carry a Quad though!

i know that when i had my 1999 Alero GL3, it hurt a couple dakotas reputations. Same chassis and drivetrain as the Grand Am. 180hp 200tq 3.4 V6 in a little 2 door car. It sure as hell better beat a pickup truck

I have a 02 Grand Am GT and I,m not hear to flame anyone so relax. Just would like to respond to a comment from I feel 4 u,"At least its not a Honda,nissian etc" That is why i bought my Grand Am,I am so sick of Hondas and various other rice crap out there so I picked up a domestic with a good starting base to improve upon.Bought the car stock and have done quite a few mods: 50 shot nitrous,replaced factory ram air with aftermarket ram air, and upgraded the exhaust/mufflers etc. The car w/o nitrous runs consistant 15.1 quarter times at 90.7 mph and with the shot it will do a best of 14.65 at 94.5 mph, most of the improvement is out of the hole.It is a blast surprizing the hell out of the new Honda accords,Nissian Altimas and the other crap from over there.Cheap fun. I do own a 98 dodge pick-up so try not to flame to hard.

I am surprised more kids don't pick up these cars,they are cheap and like the post from 02 Grand Am says they have a good starting point. I wonder.... What if Grand ams or any domestic had the flood of performance parts and attention that Hondas/nissian/toyota get from the perf suppliers, what they could put out.I strongly agree with the statement on one of the previous posts..at least its domestic.

they actually do have a pretty good aftermarket. Everything from headers to superchargers for them... but it's all kind of expensive though.

The wife used to have a 96 Grand Am GT, was only a four banger but it hauled buns, only reason we traded it off was the tranny was taking a dump and it cost more to fix than the car was worth. Love my Dakota but I do miss the Grand am.
