Well Ya'll, guess what-a stock 4.7 in a Dak ex, or QC AINT a door blower. And even if you spend
a ton of $$$, IT STILL WONT BE. 287 CI pulling TONS of truck = avg. performance. Why do so many think 4.7 + Dak = HOTROD?? Sorry, the engine is too small & the truck too heavy. You can help w/
exhaust/intakes/chips/gearing/etc, but for significant increases,a turbo, or supercharger($$$$) or a 360/383/440. (no sub for C.I.)Be care
-ful what U race. Good luckw/yur truck!

I agree.

Buy a truck because it's a truck.
Buy a fast car because it's a fast car.
Buy a truck and turn it into a fast car.
Buy a fast car and weld a box on the back.

Take your pick.

to be honest the 4.7 is'nt much of a truck engine either, it might haul the dak ok but in the full size it is a shame. Its funny how some 4.7 guys claim its simular to a hemi design.. HA come on! It seems that the power that this engine puts out barely competes with the power most 6 bangers have these days.Give it a couple of yrs and the 4.7 will be history. Why? It won't have what it takes to be competitive in 2 yrs.It also wont have the aftermarket parts that the 5.9 has produced because there is not anywhere near the intrest as the 5.9.

"I Feel for U": The '96 and '97 4.6L T-birds had 205 HP @ 4000 RPM and 280 lb-ft of torque @ 2600 RPM, with a weight around 3600 lbs and a 3.27:1 axle. They were about the lightest the '89-'97 series ever got. 0-60 came in about 7.9 and the quarter in 15.9 for my '96 when it was younger.

Yup. some of them are sleepers.
You should have ran her past her 105 MPH speed limiter :-) Then you could have said she lost!

They come with several diff engines over the years.

Base is a 4 banger and with an auto nothing to worry about.
For V6's they have had 2.8's, 3.1's, 3.4's and even some SuperCharged 3.8's!
I think the 3.1, 3.4's and 3.8's have been the main V6 options of recent.

The night I was at the track when Duner and other Dak owners were running their was a SuperCharged one there with a aftermarket cam, pulley on the S/C, and some clicks up fromt. He got low 13's with all that. However, I did get to see Duner and I think one other Daks got into the 12's that night so at least there is hope.

I just got home from towing FOUR ATV's on a trailer, four men, and gear for four men from the Dunes (Gordens Well) back to Phoenix. You can't do that with a car!
And I was STILL passing people on the big hills!!

I'm pretty happy with my 4X4. It's pretty close in acceleration as one of them V6 cars while I have other uses for the truck as well.

non of the grand am's got 3.8's or s/c'er from the factory... that's the grand prix's.

3.4 was the biggest ya could get and depending on year and model, it was between 170-185 hp with more torque to boot... it it isnt 185 honda horsepower.

what was weird about my alero was the gearing. With it's 4 speed auto, it would do 45 mph in first gear and hit it's speed limiter in second at 110 mph.

the 2001 grand am gt my wife drives has 3.23 gears if i'm not mistaken, just a little lower gear than the stock 3.4 grand ams w/o the gt option. I'm not sure where the speed limiter is for sure but i have done just a blond one away from 200kph (+/- 125mph)in it and it did not shut down. We did buy it a year old and perhaps it has been hyperteched before we bought it.It would get that speed in the 3rd gear but if you let it shift into 4th you can't get any higher than 190-195 because the gear kills the top end power.

Sorry intense, I should have paid attention or specified. I was grouping the Grand Am/Grand Prix's in together along with the other similar body styles when I was quoting available engines.
Obviously the Alero IS also the exact same thing as far as chassis goes.
I know only certain cars got the 3.8 or even the S/C'd 3.8
They actually came in cars like the Regal/Park Avenue/Bonneville before GM dumped it into the Grand Prix for some added sales.
There are some grand ma cars with that S/C'd 3.8 running around :P

Oh yeah. I LOVED the HP comparison between the GM horsepower and the HONDA horsepower!
Horsepower with some torque as well is always good :-)

i figured that's what you were getting at... but just dont want someone that gets spanked by a 3.4 GA GT thinking it was a s/c 3.8.

about the hp comparo... 180 hp 210 tq V6 compared to a 180 hp 100 tq I4

the folks have a 3.8 SC Buick regal, i thing a 2000. for a "grandma" car it goes pretty good. I'm sure i read a 15.3 quarter mile or there abouts.I hate to say it but that 3.8SC is a darn good engine from the grand nationals to present GP's etc.I think it will be a classic in the years to come.

Damn intense, that IS a big torque difference!!!

Can't wait to see what Honda's new truck offers for torque from it's V-Tec V6 :-P
BTW. They simply look like a pilot with the back cut down, nothing like a REAL truck.

The body is ONE PIECE.

Oh, regal, I am not sure, but I think the FWD 3.8 buick engine is different than the Grand National TURBO CHARGED RWD 3.8

Most of them NON S/C 3.8 V6's GM threw into everything in the early 80's sucked sh*t for power EXCPT when they threw the turbo on it in a few cars it became a holy terror! night and Day difference.
