Subject: Squeaky Noise!!! IP: Logged
Message: I am hearing a very annoying sqeaky noise as I drive. I use to only hear the noise when I turned on the truck and it would seem to go away as soon as I got going on the road. Now I am hearing the squeaky noise all the time as I drive. I don't seem to hear it when I stop only when the truck is first turned on and while its traveling. I have replaced the belt 2 times already in the last year and a half. The first I replaced the belt the noise went away. The second time I replaced it it took about 2 days after the replacement for the noise to go away. I really don't think it is normal to have to replace the belt so many times, considering I have had my truck for 4 years.
Any suggestions as to what else may be causing the noise???
Thanks Liz

Message: have you had your ball joints checked? I had my replaced, because one of them popped out on the trail, that might be the squeak.

Message: Are you sure it's the belt? Get a can of belt dressing and spray it on the belt with the engine running. If the noise immediatly goes away, it's a belt/pulley problem. If it doesn't, look somewhere else; like the idler pulley.
If it seems to be the belt, take it off. Check all the pulleys to make sure they are straight, undamaged, and clean. If the old belt left a residue, clean it off.

Message: I miss redad the post, I thought it made the noise when you turned the wheels,. not turned on the truck, .
I made a mistake, just forget my stupid post, I wasn't thinking,
by the looks of it, it seems to be something in the belts what .bob said.

Message: It is either your belt tensioner.... or most likely it is your water pump, i had the same thing on my truck. Chances are the water pump has a slow drip right now which is landing on the belt causing it to squeak.
