Subject: 96'Dak or 2000Dak? IP: Logged
Message: Hey whats up guys i have a 02R/T already but am lookin to get another dakota. I need some of u guys opinion. I am lookin at a 96 rc 5spd 318 dak and a 2000 rc4.7 dak. My question is what would be better to hotrod as far as 4 street racing. stock 4 stock and modded vs modded? i am leaning at the 318 cause iv heard those gens are a bit lighter. thanks

Message: all that I know is the 2000 had heater core problems. so thats one issue to look at. thats about all I can think of but its a costly fix and there has been people that had replaced atleast 3 to 5 cores in their trucks. check out the heater core puke in the dealer recalls section. hope this helps you out some.

Message: there should be way more perf parts for the 318 than the 4.7. if you want to hotrod it the 318 will probably be cheaper and easier than the 4.7. my .02

Message: The original heater core is still fine on my '00; so if people are going through that many, maybe it was a bad batch ? So if the core is good now, I'd expect it to stay that way. I don't know about the 318 being easier to mod - I know the cam swaps easier in the 4.7 - you can do it with the radiator still in the truck. If I modded a 318, I'd be forever wishing I had the bigger 360. '96 might be a bit lighter but remember, wiring and lines will always be that much older and less reliable. I think there's a better tranny behind the 4.7, and it will tolerate more spark advance before needing higher octane fuel. Lots of trade offs back and forth, might just want to choose whichever seems like the better deal.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: Get the 4.7. Probably run the same. Better looks. Better fuel economy.
