Subject: Gas Mileage/Performance IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 Club sport 4wd with a magnum 5.2 automatic. I have put a K/N airfilter and in 2000 a new PCM (P5007118) bought from Dodge dealer. This improved the shifting but on much gas mileage or HP.
My warranty is up and am looking to do some mods.
Like maybe a cold air intake, throttle body, exhaust, new chips,...
I want to improve the gas mileage first and formost with then some more power.
Looking for ideas/suggestions from someone who has done this. Truck only has 38k on it.

Message: First off the Mopar Performance computer you purchaced will actully hinder your gas milage. Plus you have to run 92 octane or higher to see any HP gains from that computer. You also may want to check if you have the correct computer. They have two different emissions available, Federal and California. And you dont have to live in California to have that emission system. The part number you have is for the Federal setup. To help your gas mileage, you may want to do a Fuel Induction Clean. This is made by BG Products. The Chrysler dealer I work at did one on my 98 Durango and it helped a great deal. It also unleashed some hidden HP.

Message: I have been putting 93 octane in my 4.7L just because when I run 87 in it it ticks alot, and has spark knock. I guess a modded motor would cause the fuel to burn hotter? right? which one of my mods does that?
70mm FB TB,
Gibson Shorties
FIPK
HO cams
I know the Flowmaster dosn't though

Message: D Garst - almost didn't respond since you hijacked someone else's post; but clearing up some of your confusion may help others. You might not know what you think you know - the flowmaster could easily be part of the problem. A PROPERLY modded engine won't necessarily run hotter. Your particular mods taken together (including the flowmaster) could be causing a lean condition; or you might have a different problem since the 4.7 is not especially prone to the spark knock you describe. Many have gone with the HO cams and more spark advance without even having to run premium because of the excellent design of the 4.7 heads. I would think you would be able to meter enough fuel for those mods to work though, your problem could be elsewhere.

Message: From now reading the thread you posted, the higher gearing due to your taller tires is a contributing factor.
