Subject: 92-93 exhaust manifolds better? IP: Logged
Message: anyone tried this mod? I've heard that the 92-93 manifolds are a bit larger diameter, 2 1/4 compared to the 94-present being 1 7/8. this seems to be a cheaper mod to me then buying the 500+ headers, and should still be smog legal... emissions standards are such a pain... anyway, anyone tried it out yet?

Message: I haven't tried it out because I own a 92! You are correct though, 92 and midway through 93 the 318 came with larger exhaust manifolds and a 3" exhaust. Later years came with smaller. The manifolds will give you a slight boost. A good set of headers will do more, but if you are trying to stay on a budget the 92-93 will do in a pinch.

Message: yeah, found a set of manifolds for $80... better than forking out $500 for a set that blows my emissions out the door...I live in georgia, emissions regulated.

Message: I have a set, picked them up for $50. They are ported and ceramic coated inside and out (got that done for a owed favor). I plan on putting them on in the spring, hope they work a little better.than what i have now.

Message: Those will just bolt onto a magnum 5.2? If so that sounds like a great mod. Im 16 so im on a huge budget and if i could go to the junkyard or something and get "headers" for less than $100 it would make my day.

Message: yeah, Keith. the 92 -current 5.2 & 5.9 all use the same block heads etc... I have the 5.9, I'm dealing with a tight emissions regulation, and budget. you can get "new" replacements from www.mopartpartz.com they have a great website.. tells a lot of info on crossreference too. look up a part, it'll tell you what years it was used type thing... also gives a decent discount on all dodge parts.
here's the site I got this idea from...

I've got a bunch of cheapo tricks if you're interested... just email me...
