Message: the 4.7 is a good motor, the v6's are ok but I kind of compare the small v8's a large v6's like this:
4.7 mopar, fords 4.6, and gm's 5.3 v8= short stocky guy with good strength can pull more.
toyota and nissans v6's are tall skinny guys that can run but can't hull a load as well.
don't get me wrong they're all good that is just the way I see it.
back to topic, I think the new colorado's are ugly and still smaller than the gen 3 ('97-'04) dakotas. good motor though, the 5 cylinder is a good compromise between hulling small loads with good mpg.

Message: How can some of these even be compared. I could be wrong but don't some of the Nissans and Tacomas come supercharged? Same deal with adding a supercharger to the Colorado. Supercharge the 4.7 and see what's going to happen when you try and mess with that.

Message: One thing you guys need to keep in mind when comparing dakotas to titans and frontiers is that, if you really wanted to be fair, you would compare those 'full size' trucks to a ram hemi.

Message: it's funny you brought this post up because....
well i was in the canyon behind a colorado cc and he keep speeding up so i did as well...the colorado doesn't handle nearly as well as the dakota...i would give him distance on the straights and be right back on his a$$ in the corner...he had bad body roll...near the end of the canyon i found a chance to pass so i proceeded...i was going a 103mph and watch him hit his governor at 100mph...i get around him going into the next corner at a 90mph keep in mind this is a dakota TRUCK entering a 45mph corner...i will just say this "the ABS save my life"...all four tires let lose at one point and i was like HOLE SH!T!!!good thing i have some wide fuking tires...this road is also to the left of no were so no ones life was at stake besides my own.
and some mods to slow it down!

Message: I personally just can't get over the fact that Chevy put a inline 5 in the Colorado/Canyon. What were they thinking? I don't really mind the appearance of the trucks, but wouldn't ever buy one due solely to the engine options offerred. I'll stick with my 4.7L Dak thank you!

Message: the looks of it have grown on me a little but, one of the guys i work with had one(crew cab 4x4) as a rental the other day so i did a little side by side comparison of it against my '00 QC 4x2 Sport.
there is NO comparison really. the 4x4 was the same height as my 4x2. the interior is very cheaply done. for instance, the anchor bolts for the front seatbelt were just hidden under the carpet. there was a little flap cut in the carpet to cover it! besides the bolt was already rusting!
my dak is much roomier inside too. the dash and door panels on the chevy were also very cheap looking. i wouldn't waste my money on one even if you could get it with an LS1.

I4 or I5??? That's a joke. :p
I saw one the other day that had just the right size wheels and tires making it kind of look ok to me. But generally, they are ugly.

Message: i have a '05 colorado crew cab 2wd 3.5L auto with a K&N and flowmaster with 255/70/16 tires(had stock 225/75/15 tires) and it beats almost every truck in my town.i raced a 06 z71 with a programmer and cold air intake and was passin him at 85-90mph.only problem was my truck cuts off at 97mph.now torque wise yall dakota fans got us cuz i pulled a small unloaded tandem axle trailer and was havin a lil trouble pullin it.but thats not wat i made my truck for anyway.but for racing, yall give the 3.5L way less credit.when mine had 10kmiles i put the k&n in it an was runnin low 7sec 0-60s.if you really wanna see wat they can do racewise, line up beside one.

Message: hey chris king, remember one thing.. at least when someone asks you "hey whats in your truck" you cant say v6 or v8, you have to say I-5. thats just the stupidest thing ive ever seen. and no, racing wise you dont have an edge on my dak v6, i run mid 16's almost stock in the 1/4. and no matter what you do, the fastest you can go is 97 mph. the fastest mine goes is 118 mph. so eventually, no matter how fast you can get up to 97 mph, i'll beat you.. no matter what. Hell I could probably beat you with a bed full of gravel.

Message: I saw a Colorado run at the track a few times. They must be REALLY lite in the a$ end. Because some guy kept dumping the clutch every single race one night and smoked his (one wheel) at least 1/8 mile each time! The I5 must have enough power to keep that one wheel spinning!
But I haven't seen any sub 16 or even 17 second Colorados yet at our track. :p
