Subject: Power, or Lack Of IP: Logged
Message: I have a 04 Dakota Quad Cab 2wd with 4.7 engine. Maybe I'm just getting used to it but it seems like it doesn't have the same power that it had when I test drove it. When I floor it it seems like it hesitates and it takes a second or two for the power to kick in. I had a 2001 Grand Am Gt with a 3.4 (Glad to be rid of that piece of S__T!)and it seems to have the same sort of power. My truck was the last on the lot and I just got it four months ago so could it have sat on the lot too long with old gas or something. Is there some way to tell if the power is where it should be.

Message: I think yo ujust got use to it. and even if it had a bad tank of gas. by the 4 months you ran it. it should be out of the truck a long time ago. also dealerships only keep a quarter tank of gas at most in them cars and trucks. if you feeling the hessitation while rolling down the road. my dak does the same thing when yo ufloor it. it has to shift down. its not a sports car. truck made for hauling not ripping down the quarter mile(some are so dont rag me guys) =-Þ.
if yo uthink theres something wrong. take it to the dealership. worst they can do is make fun of you behind your back.
only way to check the HP is to put it on a dyno and test it.

Message: Yea, I understand what your sayin. It's just that the Dealer convinced me to go with the 8 instead of the 6 and I kept hearing "you wont be looking for power". I read somewhere on this site that a 4.7 could give a 5.0 Stang a go...I dont think so! Anyway dont get me wrong I love my Dak, its a bit of a sleeper. It's like you say though 'it's a TRUCK'...unless you want to make into something else.

Message: well that might have been a modified 4.7 dak. I know my 4.7 would get chewed up and spit out unless we went off road lol. I dont think you would of been happy with the v-6. I know my brother in law had a v-6 dak and always wished he had a v-8. just love your truck and you might be cussing you wish you would of gotten 4x4 if you live in a big snow area lol.

Message: check out "tps mod" - for trucks that don't have instant throttle response.

Message: MIke,
Got an auto tranny, right? Sounds like something simple like the TPS voltage, as mentioned, etc.
Have fun, my 4.7 is.
