Subject: Supercharger Questions IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, I was looking at installing a Powerdyne Supercharger on my 99 R/T and was wondering what's I'd need to do to my truck so I don't break something (I only want 6-7 pounds of boost) and so it works with my current mods (except the K&N Gen II of course). My truck has a Mopar M1, Mopar Performance Computer, Mopar Headers, catless single pipe exhaust with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler splitting to dual pipes, 180 degree thermostat and a B&M racing transmission cooler. Before the summer, I plan to add a F&B 55mmX52mm throttle body and 4.11 gears. Any help would be appreciated, I don't know much about forced induction, but I want that little extra something to put me close to Lightnings.

Message: I know that you'll have to get a high-flow fuel pump which I think means you have to take off the bed to install in the gas tank. But I don't know about taking off the bed for a fact. I just saw some guys to that on Speed TV. I hope to get a blower for my '04 when they make one and I find $4k to spend on it.

Message: The kit comes with a bigger fuel pump, and I was planning on going to 24lb/hr injectors too, but was wondering on it working with my current mods and stock pistons, rods, etc. and not destroying my transmission.

Message: If you use the Powerdyne S/C kit for your truck, you do not have to get into your tank. The aux. pump is mounted along the frame rail under the driver. It comes complete with an FMU and all hoses and fittings.

Message: I say spend the extra money a get the intercooled procharger.About a year ago I put one on my 99 dakota and got a 60% increase in rwhp.First off I have a 99 CC 4x4 AT w/3.55 gears and 112,000 when the charger was installed. The only mods I had was a high flow cat with header pipes, a split daul exhaust, a k/n filter, a msd ignition box and a 180 stat. It's dyno @ 192 rwhp.I had a jet chip which I added to see it the hp would increase and it didn't,just the timing change makes you think you have more hp and I also had a mopar performance computer which I tried and got a 2 rwhp gain. But anyway, stock this truck dyno @ 176 rwhp, so with the above mods I increased 10%.So I added the supercharger and installed a M1 intake and a 55mm tb at the same time (I did have to get a boost retarter)The dyno numbers were 310-320 rwhp (depending how rich or lean I wanted it to run)which would put the crank at about 375hp which is a 60% gain in rwhp and 70% at the crank. The truck now has 123,000 miles and runs fine. This set up it a bit pricey about $6000-$7000 after parts and installation (which I would reccommend unless you have alot of time) and of course dyno/tuning costs.I do think I will need to upgrade my 19lbs stock injector soon I'm pushing them to the limit. If I do any more mod I will need to get a programable computer modular and a wide band unit to regulate fuel and a fuel system upgrade, about another $5 grand.Another option for you could be turbo it will cost about the same but later you could upgrade to twin turbo.
