Subject: Ball Joints IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1999 Dakota and I needed to replace the ball joints
at 38000 miles. Would anyone happen to know why Dodge
is not recalling the 99's? Thet are recalling 00 - 03 for the
same problem that I had with the 99. Any information
would be greatly appreciated.

Message: They are recalling the other year models because that setup has been known to allow a wheel to fall off with NO WARNING. The 1999 year model does not fail in that kind of surprise manner. No one said they do not fail on other year models. They do not fail without making noise before allowing a wheel to fall off....or so says the NHTSA.
If they are recalling them just because they fail, then the lower ball joints and the control arm bushings should be recalled also due to a similar failure rate.
