Subject: Homemade cold-air intake - need advice IP: Logged
Message: I'm planning on installing a homemade cold-air intake on my '04 4.7L. I thought it would just be a matter of taking off the stock filter box and hoses and replacing them. But there appear to be two small hoses attached to the stock box - one goes back towards the cab and the other appears to go into the intake manifold. Does anyone know what these are for and if they need to be reattached? Any advice would be appreciated.

Message: To be honest, I can't tell you exactly what they are for. But be assured that if DC spent the money to install it, it must have a purpose. I would suggest that you install them on your new intake.

Message: Also, is there any issue with sensors, or does one not have to worry about that when putting on a cold-air intake on the 4.7L?

Message: btomcik,
If you spend a little time in the 'search's section of this site, type something like homebrew 4.7, you'll find LOT's of different ways, structures, fittings, even Pics.
I won't go into my 4.7 homebrew now, there's lots of good ideas, etc.
Just know that the stock set-up, while quieter, ain't that bad at all.
Have fun with it, and Good luck

Message: I think your looking at the crankcase vent hoses, one hose going to the air box split into 2 to the engine, or 2 hoses attached to the air box? I rememeber 1 to the air box that was split into 2 for the engine on my 00. You'll probably get better info from searching since this is kind of a dead subject since there have been so many posts about this.
I saw some benefits from running the homebrew. My son loves the noise and my wife hates it,,, oh and some increase in power ;-)

Message: Did you see my dyno results. I turned on my speedtweaks IAT sensor, the dial was at about 10:00 on the dial. NADDA, NO change in the previous run w/o it! I know there's some conditions where it may do something. Bernd used to say, that if it's not over at least 70 degreess outside, it does nothing, or so I recall something like that. My dyno, nothing happened w/ it on.

Message: I don't have the AIT adjuster, just moved the AIT into the air intake tube instead of it being mounted in the intake manifold, hence AIT mod. With the air intake, AIT mod and TPS mod I noticed some improvements, mostly while towing.
