Subject: ported heads IP: Logged
Message: ok, the intake manifold install is not working for me. i don't want to lose torque anyways. anybody done head work on their 4.7 and happy with it. i hear fastman is starting that service now. is it really gains across the board. i figured it would especially help at high rpms. is it essentialy the same deal as a better cam, letting more air into the intake cycle, then letting out faster/easier on exhaust cycle. how would ported heads differ from better cam?

Message: KRC Performance has done alot with port those heads and cams. With ported heads and a good cam like the 206 look for a gain of about 22-25% or 50 or 60 horsepower. The power is locked in the heads. www.krcperformance.com

Message: Well... it is common knowledge that a good speed shop has a flow bench. This is old school (20+ years) technology. Just take your truck to a respectable speed shop in your area and have them port the heads for you using a flow bench.
To get noticable gains with this mod you will need to open up the rest of the breathing system in your truck as well. Put in a true dual exhaust with high flow cats, 72MM TB and headers. Do a search on this message board for info on those items.
I say go for it and tell us what happens!
