Message: Did you buy it new or used ? Did it work when first installed ? By the way, "posi" is a Chevy term - you have a "sure grip" or "limited slip". When these types of rears are worn out, they revert to peg leg.

Message: it was new from dodge.... got it as a "warranty replacement" from a buddy.. heehee. it seemed to work ok at first but not for long. do you think the synthetic fluid could have anything to do with it?

Message: Using synthetic fluid won't hurt it unless you forget to add friction modifier. Without the friction modifier, it'll work great for a while, but the clutch plates wear down fast. After that happens, as you're finding out, all you have left is the equivalent of an "open" differential.
RTFM dude, RTFM.

Message: I'm having the exact same problem with mine. I installed gears and a "Mopar" sure-grip about 15000 miles ago. I've noticed that when the roads are wet it wants to go back to a peg leg when turning corners. I used Mobile 1 gear oil with "Autozone" brand friction modifier. Not too happy about my situation either so I feel your pain.

Message:
Synthetic is fine but make SURE that you use the friction
modifier too and, make sure you fill it to the proper level.
I use the Severe Gear 75w-140 and the Slip Lock additive from
Amsoil due to the fact that I do some serious towing.

Message: A sure grip is not a locker. It is only a clutch. If the drive wheels have very different traction conditions, and one wheel is allowed to spin up, it will fry it really fast. Booting it around corners will also destroy it. Drive tires of different circumferences(one worn, one new) will fry it.
