Subject: More power out of my 2004 4.7 4X4??? IP: Logged
Message: Ok I have the California Concepts 4X4 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7 liter engine. I was looking for a little more power. What options do I have for such a thing? I also have the optional 7 year 75k warranty that I don't want to forgo on the power mods.
Thanks in advance
Mike

Message: Well I was looking for around 20 to 50hp. I don't know that the K&N's will deliver more then a few at the very most.

Message: The jeep HO cams would be a good place to start. Stock mopar part, they won't recognize it as an add on part even if they see it.

Message: Is this the cam that is coming on the new 2005 trucks on the HO version? What's the cost and availability?
Thanks for the quick response. Also what do you think I might gain with them?

Message: I believe that's the same cam, many of us bought it as the jeep HO part. Available from any dealer, shop for a discounted one; or from KRC Performance which also has some hotter cams. I forget the hp #s, you get most of the torque advantage of the HO package just changing this one part. Lots of info on where to get and how to install if you do a search on this site. Some dealers advertise discounts in the mopar magazines.

Message: Ok I have been looking around, but when I do a search I get a lot of 2002 info. Maybe I'm not doing it right, but I was also on buymopar.com and they have a setup but said it did nothing for a 2003 and higher motor, so I'm a bit confused. Does KRC have a website?
Thanks again

Message: Hey Jason. I saw your response to the Dodge question I had. Thank you by the way for the help but I do have a couple of quick questions. Since I have the 2004 Dakota 4.7 I only need the cams? How hard are they to install? What about the up coming power chip from superchips? Also will any of this void my factory warranty? And what are the possible power gains going both ways?

Message: getting the ho cams and a bucket of chicken? call kfc. just kidding i'm sure krc performance doesn't mind a little spicy crispy now and then too. yeah get the cams i did. expect about 20-25 foot pounds of torque across the board. superchips may be another 12-15 across the board with peaks hitting 22hp. i have ho cams and am getting the superchips too. it's paid for already, just awaiting shipment. i'm a little jealous of your manifold and plus you already have a 68 mm throttle body so you may be good there already. don't touch your manifold to confirm the above question. 5 hrs for a shop to install the two cams. i paid 320. hope that helps.

Message: Hey Jason. Yeah I thought I would get a few buckets of checken with that cam order.. My bad hehe
Anyways I was going to go for the 206 cams for $699 with the springs and send them my computer for the flash. I'm told that the flash program to the stock chip is better then any chip companys chip that is on the market, or going to be on the market. Or so what I hear.

Message: I think he said $450 or something like that. I then went to a dodge dealer/performance shop and they said the exact same thing. They said the aftermarket chips are not as good because of the fact that the dodge ones are also programmable, and won't void a warranty. The factory can't tell that it has been re/preprogrammed and newer chips may miss several things that the factory chip already has on it for that specific vehicle. It seemed to make sense the way they described it. KRC said that if I get the 206 cams and have there programmer re program my chip not only for the cams but for the air and fuel mixture at all RPM cycles. After hearing all of this it seemed to me not wise at all to go with a superchip when the factory chip can be reprogrammed to do the same thing but better. What do you guys think?

Message: How good would the cams be with no changes to the ECM?? I Have an FIPK and Gibson headers and cat-back but no ECM mods. I am working on getting a 2door ECM. I have a quad cab truck . Computer is limited at 97mph. Just ordered a 2door ecm and will have it flashed eventually.

Message: I'm told the 206 cams will net 30hp and 30pf of touque. At least that's what they told me on the phone, and the PCM flash will deliever even more but I didn't get an exact figure with that. Will see. I'm going to order them at the first of the year.

Message: Yes, you'll be fine. Ran mine like that for a short while before having PCM flashed, you'll still see gains from the cams. Both mods work fine seperately and even better together.
