Subject: headers and programmer for 4.7? IP: Logged
Message: has anyone see a big difference from headers or the prgrammers for the 4.7? i'm sure headers wont do much for the numbers, but what about noticeable driving difference? i'm still wanting to know about the programmers.

Message: I'd almost be tempted to run full length headers. But they cost WAY too much in compare to small block chevy/ford etc to drop that kind of coin ($500+)
I'd almost make my own. It would be kind of fun making a custom set with exits in front of each rear tire (true duals).
I'm STILL waiting for a programmer for mine.

Message: The factory 4.7 exhaust manifolds were designed to flow to within 2% of headers. Unless your 4.7 is approaching 300+HP, I would think the results of headers would be minimal.

Message: demondakota made his own full length headers and had good results. I don't even think there are any companies that make full length headers for the 4.7L.

Message: 01Motorsport,
Where did you get this info? Two percent of what headers? Pretty general statement.

Message: I've seen that # too, forget where now. It's a comparison to the short headers. I'd expect long tube headers to do better but as far as I know you're right - only way to get them is to fabricate them yourself.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: Kenne Bell shows on there website that short tube headers produce 12RWHP on the 4.7. That's greater than 2%. I know from my installation there is a significant increase in torque but I never dyno'ed it.

Message: I installed JBA headers on my '01 4.7 - I could feel a difference - mainly in the top end it pulls harder now.

Message: i talked to a guy at krc today on the phone. he said that headers with a set of set of 206 cams would bump me up 40-50 hp. so i think im gonna order it from them.

Message: CThomp. Did demondakota make them from scratch? Or did he modify a set of shorty headers?
I haven't even seen a set of stock manifolds off yet to see what pattern, what gaskets we use, etc to get a really good idea of what I could make.
But one thing is for sure. NO SPARKPLUGS or WIRES to worry about! :-)
I would think full length would be an all over improvement. Even when towing.
I wonder what my 4.7 would sound like with full length headers and a set of nice glass packs?
Maybe it would be louder than this blasted Acura across the street who has straight pipes, no muffler,
His sounds like sh*t, but is loud as heck. Kind of annoying loud yet not intimidating like a fly buzzing around your head.
Got to show him what sounds good and what doesn't. Well, mine sounds better already. Just not quite as loud as his sh*t box Acura (glorified Civic).

Message: From what I understand Demondakota designed them and built them himself. He had awesome gains from them from the way he talked. His went into a set of 2.25in. true duals. He was going to market them I believe but something happenned and the headers never came to be. Oh well.
I think the main key to the 4.7L's exhaust is to elimiate the y-pipe. Get a set of good shorties and the gsmotorsports tru-dual exhaust setup. This should give some awesome gains.
My plan is to get the gsm exhaust but with Magnaflows rather than the spintechs. He can send you just the pipes if you want them. Not sure on the cost though. Right now I have a 2.5" Magnaflow #14256. I'd like to keep it. This is why i'd get just the pipes. Headers might come later. I'd like to see what Thorley and Hedman have to offer. They both have part numbers but I've never seen any images.
