Message: Agreed! 4:2 always looks better to me. My Bandit had a 4:1 factory setup and it was ok but the left side always looked strange :-)
The St1100 has a 4:2:1:2 setup from the factory. It's a real low revver but not much up top. I took the cans off and tried some D&D and 2Bros but they sounded like crap! So I got some midpipes and put on some universal fit Supertrap internal core pipes and tuned the discs for great sound and flow. I am SUPER happy with them, but they were $$$. Now I need to rejet though because I am too rich from when I set her up for the D&D's. I love to tinker!
Enjoy the trip and be careful as usual. I have a funeral to attend tomorrow for a fellow SABMAG member. He didn't make it. MSF instructor and 12 season rider... damn shame.

Message: My condolences on your loss. Always a shame when a rider goes down for any reason.
Supertrapp makes some nice cans. I always liked their adjustable disc systems, but they are pricey. In the end that may end up being the route I take. Yoshimura used to make a Zyclone slip on for the Zeph, but it has been discontinued for quite some time. I've seen it on a 750 before, and it looked decent with good sound. After my suspension upgrade that will be the next project, along with rejetting for the new exhaust.

Message: Yosh makes some great stuff, for sure. Check out these Trapps though. They are NOT like what you'd think of when you think of Supertrapp. They look like a sport-touring can (I chose 19" length, but you can go like 16" to 21" or so IIRC, but when you remove the nozzle endcap, it reveals the tuning discs *inside* the can. Very cool and discrete with a sporty look. It's all brushed stainless too, so it looks nice IMHO. It's worth a look.
