Subject: V6 to ford v8 swap IP: Logged
Message: I have a 96 Dak v6 and i am swapping in a built Ford 302 i have laying around. The Magnum v6 is mounted offcenter in the truck - 4" to the passenger side. My question is will the 302 fit if i leave it mounted offcenter? If i center it i will have to work around the steering (not a big problem) but i will also have to relocate the transmission tunnel (also not a big problem but i want to have this on the road in march). Has anyone done this or something similar that can offer advice?

Message: Ford in a Dodge. That's blasphemy don't you know?
But them 302's can be made to run. I've had about 4 of them in my life. One built pretty well that screamed like a raped ape. They can run 7k RPM's on a stock bottom end as long as you have good heads and a good cam.
The engine being offset, that sucks. I'm sure if you dropped in a 302 with a C4 (or a C6 but would take more room) you could make the mounts to be offset just as easy. The u-joints should handle the slight angle.

Message: Yeah i'm using a C6 with a full manual valve body. I plan on fabbing up the motor mount towers myself either way. I'll probably leave the motor offset and hope the headers will clear.

Message: correct me if i,m wrong, but you,ll have to put the 5.0 in with the offset for the trans to line-up with the rear-end
for the trans hump,a C4 should fit it,s no bigger than a A518 trans,i don,t no how big the C6 is,but my guess is not much differents
headers if you go with the shorties i see no problem there[i don,t think a 302 is wider than a 318 or 3.9,narrower i think]
if the 302 and C6 trans is close by measure the two, length, width, depth against the 3.9 and trans lenght, width, depth
