Subject: Header bolt broke IP: Logged
Message: I broke one of the bolts from my exhaust manifolds a couple of months ago on my 1995 Dakota. It is one of the one's in the middle and so far it doesn't leak, so I was wondering if there are any problems that this could cause? I have heard that it would cost around $250 to have it drilled out, so I'm hoping that I can leave it alone. Any ideas?

Message: Is it a header bolt, or the fatory stud for the manifolds?? If it's the factory stud, you might be able to remove the manifold and still have enough of the stud sticking out to be able to remove it.

Message: It's the factory stud for the manifold. You might be right, hopefully I will be able to get to it that way. Thanks.

Message: There's a good chance it will hold forever without leaking. I would forget about it until it starts leaking, then spend the time and frustration trying to fix it.

Message: I had a bolt snap off in the same spot. ground it smooth, drilled 1/8" hole and tried a e z out. it snapped of in the hole. had to use a smaller bit, and drill holes around the e z out, and chisel it out. sucky job!!

Message: for that size bolt you should have used the 1/4 NOT the 1/8 size. 1/8 is too darn small.

Message: I am missing the manifold stud for #2 cylinder. It was never installed from the factory. I only noticed it was missing last month when I was detailing the engine. The threads are in perfect condition (as far as I can tell). The gasket isnt leaking and there isnt anything looking like it needs to be fixed. I have over 130,000 Km so far.
