Message: This truck of mine...is ridiculous. Buddy of mine pulled up beside me today in his ugly ass 1998 Chevrolet Cheyenne Extended Cab. I have worked on his truck before with him...stock 5.0 V8 with a K&N filter.
Light turns green...I ease out at half throttle until about 15-20mph and stomped it. Lit up the rear end. Didn't catch traction until somewhere in 2nd gear. Finally nosed even with him at 60mph, but by then I had to shut it down.
I am running Falkien 275s in the rear. I know the weather is cool, but this is ridiculous. I can't even beat average joe blow in his pickup. Any advice here would be appreciated.

Message: yeah, drag radials will help alot, but in cold weather, they wont help cause they wont be sticky anymore. i got a cc r/t, and compared to my buddy's rc r/t, with his having a shorter wheelbase,it hooks up right away and mine just spins. i dont know what truck you have, but you might have the same problem as me

Message: First of all get rid of the falkens, they suck for strait line acceleration, secondly ease into the throttle a little, control your wheelspin your loosing a lot of ground and just burning up your tires. third take it to a track.

Message: wider isn't always better. the wider you go the less pressure per square inch there is on the back end, sticky is what you want for traction not just wide. If you guys have learned physics than you should be aware of this.

Message: ok if u really know physics or neumatics or hydrolics(however its spelt). that just say u have 35psi in ur 275 tire.. if you have 35psi in ur 295 tire.. its the same pressure!!!!.. the volume of air will be greater but the presure is still 35psi. and even like u say there is less pressure on the back end thats good for traction.. the tire will get more area contact with the road, resulting in better grip. and of course a sticker tire is goin to have more traction.. but lets say he couldnt afford a set of drag radials or cause of winter couldnt use them.. then a little wider tire would help without sacrificing daily driving.

Message: Blkdak00,
I've owned a few sets of falken tires. I used tho run them when my car was still a daily driver, and handling was more important to me. The do great for handling, my car would stick to the road in the corners, but taking off from a standstill, they woud light up like no other. Now before you say, "you need to learn to launch beter" or feather the clutch...I'm pretty consistant in my driving so when I say that i've compared them to other tires, I feel confident in my comparison. For example, compared to nitto 450's the falkens out perform then in handling, but the nitto's grip better off the line, along with bfg's and even kumho's..they all seem to grip better off the line. All of my tires have been of the same size, except my current bfg's but they are drag radials so they don't count.
If you want good handling with a cheap price tag get falkens (azenis I hear are awesom), if you want grip off the line, get something a little more expensive such as bfg's (drag radials rule) or yokahoma's...
I've never done a scientific study on this, so this is all based upon my oppinion and experience. Oh lastly I couldn't get my 60' time below 2.3 with the falcons, with the nitto's i was able to get 2.2's and 1.9's with the DR's

He WASNT talking about air pressure in the tire, he was talking about the pressure applied to the pavement by the rubber on the tire. If I stand on a 12" spuare board on your chest, its not going to hurt when I weigh 160lbs. BUT, if Im standing in womens heels on your chest (no pictures please) then its going to hurt even though I weigh the same. Same principle with tires on the road, its a balance game.

Message: this wide tire to narrow tire putting more pressure to the road only works on paper and in heels,a wider tire has a bigger foot print, this bigger foot print is more rubber in contact with the road,
if you think i,m wrong put one of these dounut spares on and see how you can spin these,
truth of the matter is in how well the chassis and suspension transfers weight to the tires and not into the springs when under power, this is where a good traction bar will stop spring wind-up and apply the power/weight to the road,

Message: seriously though, if your tires don't have good contact with the ground, i would think either some weight or some sort of wing/spoiler/etc to push them down onto the road might be a better idea to look into instead of new tires.
just my $0.02

Message: Hybrid,
ya i agree with you. The falkens do have very good handling. I have 275/50' series *falkens*
I've done some pretty hard cornering and they have held up, but in the rain or off the line and corners they spin alot easier than my stock tires!
what do you think of the pirelli tires? do you know if they carry them for trucks 275s?
