Message: God Harrison, you are so full of that toyota crap... hey, I like tacomas and Dakotas way over any other mid size truck, but understand your damn facts first. You laugh at the fact the 5.2 magnum engine wont last as long as your toyota engine? wow right there says your dumb.. The 318 ( 5.2) is the longest lasting gas V-8 ever made, and due to that was in production for a ling long time. aka it will outlast any of toyotas. I own a Dakota, and My best friend has a 93 toyota pickup ( slow as hell but really awesome) and my other friend has a pre-runner 3.4 ext. cab and its fast but nothing special, and hes had some pretty major problems with it, unlike my friend with the 93 4x4, its flawless so far. So I like tacomas too ok Harrison, but what your saying puts a bad rap on them because your acting really dumb. and yeah the 4.7 is 230HP, and the 3.4 is 190hp, so U'd probably say that "hmmm... you'd think a V-8 compared to a 6 should have a lot more power than my 3.4.." Uhh its because that 4.7 will have a better powerband and way more torque than that 3.4 which is a peaky engine ( drivie nmy friends 3.4) aka I'd take a 250Hp V8 over a 250Hp V6 anytime.. just stop being dumn... and finally, I buy trucks for 4x4 performance... get a damn car is all you want is speed. If i can too choose over my friends 93 slow 4x4 4 banger but that is hella slick offroad with his tire/wheel setup and everything or a faster 3.4 2x4, id get the 93 pickup...

Message: Too funny.
I'd NEVER trade in my Dodge V8 for a Toyota V6.
I LIKE being able to tow 3000 Lbs worth of Quads up hills at 80+ MPH!
I bet that 3.4 V6 couldn't pull my trailer at 45MPH. I pass V8 Tahoes and the likes. A Tacoma wouldn't even be in the same league! A S/C 3.4 probably still wouldn't be as good. You need a V8 with TORQUE to tow. So that's what I got.
When I went to buy the Dakota, 90% of them on the lot were V6 Dakota's. After I had to look through every one of them my wife says something like "ok, does it HAVE to be a V8"? and of course I said "YES!"

Message: Slow4x4Dak,
Read my post again, I owner a R/T not a tacoma and I reported what I saw at the track. I saw a '05 Tacoma run the 9.5 and I also saw under his hood (everything was stock).
Also, there is no such thing as a "BMW M315" but BMW does make a M3. Remember one thing, don't compare apples to oranges (cars to trucks). Just because a car and a truck have somewhat similar 1/8 times does not mean that they will have similar 1/4 times. The M3 has better top end than low end and the 1/8 is not designed for top end pulling. Last, aerodynamics plays a bigger role in the 1/4 than in the 1/8, so again cars get the advantage of having better aerodynamics.
GraphiteDak,
Race whatever you want, just know that the new '05 X-runner is not same 2.4L Tacomas you like to spank.

Message: I don't know of anyone with a 2.4 Tacoma. They're V6's. And you can tell the sh*ty sound of them V6's compared to the 4.
It's still not enough truck for me no matter what they say. The Dakota is barely enough truck for me. I've already towed way more than I should have a few times (like a trailer full of cement)n but it still had power. If I needed to really tow I'd go get a damn Powerstroke.
The Dakota has to be about the best compromise in size and power. It's about the most sporty truck their is being kind of midsized but having fullsized drivetrain. That's why I bought it.
A Tacoma is just a kids toy in compare. You'd have to compare a Dak to a Tundra.

Message: i saw an article in four wheeler magazine at borders today and the tacoma with 245 hp kicked the dakotas butt. it's quarter mile time was over a second quicker. it was like 16.6 for taco compared to 18.1 or 17.9 for dak. i know they seem high but if it was high altitude or hot, whatever, seems the lighter taco would still win in colder, lower alt race. was 600+ lbs lighter. less torque but had about same torque/weight ratio it seems but kicked in hp/weight ratio. hmmm.
glad i have ho cams and lighter than 05 dakota

Message: jasonsdakota,
I'll have to check out that magazine. Also, a lot a magazines do not correct for altitude or other facts so many readiers assume that the vehicles tested are slow. Sport Truck magazine does this often at Los Angeles County Raceway (LACR) and it always bugged me that they never included corrected numbers. Thanks for the information.

Still waiting for one of his buddies to come hang out at the track with me here in Texas.
