Old Fool,

Do you have limited slip or a locker in that truck? I have a open diff at the moment and I'm in the market to puchase a locker kit, perhaps a powertrax. Can I have your input on what might be the best/frugal way of accomplishing this?

02 Dak, 4.7 V8, 4x2. 3.55 rear end.

Mr. Sleepy,

I have the Dana Trak Lok factory style. It has held up well and squats the truck very well with my custom Lakewoods. I got it at 4 Wheel Parts dot com for about $150 plus the install kit $80. I installed it myself, but wouldn't recommend doing it that way. I think it would be worth the couple hundred pessos to have them install it. I have the 3.92's and with the 28x11.5-16 M/T ET Streets gives it a final drive ratio of 4.00-1. makes for a great 1.9 second 60'.

Mr Taco said Yeah i would race you any time but im from nc, any dak owners around here i will hit it up with you whenever, wherever. I'm sorry but you think your engine can outlast any toyota, honda, mitsu, hahahahahahaha. Hit me up for raleigh area if you wanna race.

Like someone said. Taco's haven't been around like what 10 or so years now???
Even the beloved (and way underpowered) 20R and 22R's had oil leaks by 100k miles even tho they did last 300k at times. But they were the slowest truck, and not abused equal to V8 Dodges (Fords/ Chevy's) in the same way nor used to tow huge loads either. they were bought as cheap trucks for LIGHT duty.
Sh*t. A 318 would last 200k miles in a friggin MOTOR HOME and STILL not blow blue smoke or have any rattles!!!
Any of you remember those Chinook wanna be motor homes on the Toyota truck frame using the 22R motors and a manual tranny???
Talk about funny as heck!

Now talk Honda's??? They STILL don't make a truck. Here anyway. If you can even FIND a Honda over 15 yrs old on the street it's a miracle.
Mitsubitchi blew thick clouds of blue smoke at 80 to 100k miles. So far for being reliable. I'm starting to already find the last generation of Eclipse' blowing blue smoke!!!

Look in the junk yard. It's ALL Honda's and Mitsubitchi's!!! One minor crash does any of them in.

As for racing. That's funny the S/C Taco's can't even bust 16's!
If my almost stock 4X4 QC doesn't do a 16 I'll be pist!

Harrison, if you had any credibility at all you just flushed it right down the drain with that last statement, especially with that last feeble dream/lie about under 14's with exhaust and intake. Add a cliff 1/4 mile long and a running start and it will see 14's once.

Dude. If a STOCK Taco runs low 15's, then that 1/4 mile track you all have on your farm is definitely slanted DOWN HILL.
I'd be surprised if they run 17's.

I usually don't post to these type of posts but I see a lot of bull. First, I was at Irwindale 1/8 mile speedway last night and saw the new 05 Taco X-runner(without the supercharger). The truck ran a best of 9.5 @ 73mph, which translates to mid-high 14s in the 1/4 mile(not bad). Toyota did a good job on the interior and the exterior is better than the previous tacos. Just to give you some perspective my single cab R/T with mods ran a 9.1 @ 78mph(low 14s in the 1/4). The X-runner is quicker than people think and I'm sure the supercharger will put it in the high 13s to low 14s range with traction. The owner of the X-runner had a hard time launching the x-runner, so his track times were all over the place. The truck was new and still had paper plates so the owner of the X was still figuring and feeling the truck out. Also, there was a new GTO that ran a best of 9.2 @7?. I am not saying these times go for all X-runners or GTOs, I'm just reporting what I saw first hand.

Second, no Quadcab 4x4 4.7 can run with any real SRT-4. I have to close buddy with the same quad setup with many mods and they run high 15s to low 16s depending on track conditions. Heck, I've seen a lowered clubcab 4.7 with all the mods and slicks and it only ran a 14.9 at Carlsbad raceway. The owner could not blame it on track conditions because Carlsbad is a beach city with cold and dense air. Carlsbad was one of the best tracks for good track times until they destroyed the track (purchased by the city). On the SRT-4 side, I have seen them run low to mid 14s in stock form and low 13s with slicks and a chip. Heck, the worse was a 14.8 with a 60 foot in the high 2s (something like 2.6), which only means driver error. Sorry GraphiteDak, you did not race a real SRT-4. Perhaps you raced an R/T neon with SRT cloning effects. Also, if the rest of the X-runners are running similar times to the results I saw last night, a Quadcab 4x4 4.7 (or 5.9) better be running a blower. Without the blower the Quadcab with minor mods will get killed by the new X.

Lastly, I'm a dodge man to the bone but facts are facts. Heck, I'd like to say I can beat the new cobras but I can't. I raced an 04 cobra last night and it killed me! I think he ran the 1/8 mile in 7.7 @ 98 and the only mods I could visually see were his street slicks. Face the facts and live with it because no one believes a vehicle with much more weight and less power or similar power can beat any vehicle that weighs a whole lot less.

Eli
9.1 @ 78mph in full street trim (no weight reduction and full tire pressure w/street tires)

DeepDak.
I NEVER said I beat a SRT-4
I said he beat me.
I just noted I jumped him from the hole each time. By 30 to 40 he was matched and by 50 he was passing me and you could hear his turbo spooling by then.
It was no Neon R/T. 4X4 or not I'd probably beat that the entire time.

Now earlier this year I raced a Turbo Jetta about 3 or 4 times from stoplights going down Grand Ave. Each time he jumped me he barely beat me, and each time I jumped him from the hole I beat him. We raced up to 80 or so. Not bad for a 4X4 vs Turbo 1.8 car. We talked at a light, so I KNOW we were racing.

I used to beat Tacoma's with my 4 banger Altima. My truck is quicker than it was. On the freeway when we fight for a lane I've won, not the Taco's.

The truck ran a best of 9.5 @ 73mph (Non s/ced)??!?

You are drunk, my friends bmw m315 (the v6 one or whatever) runs a 1/8 at 9.4 @ 71mph and he runs 13.8 @ 99mph 1/4. Don't tell me a v6 tacoma even comes close. End this conversation now, the non supercharged v6's are gonna run low to mid 16's. It's impressive for a v6, but it is not going to keep up with a v8 dakota, 4x4 or not. The S/C is gonna drop at MOST 2 seconds, and that's still 14's. Any decently modded r/t is gonna run it.

I have a 2002, 4x4 3.9 5spd 3.55 ClubCab Dakota (17.7 @ 79mph SLOW) . My friend has a 4.7 (runs 14.8 with only CAI and exhaust). I've been to the track about 12 times this year, and I've seen 4.7's running from the 12's to 15.4 was the highest # I saw. The R/T's ran an impressive 11's to the 14.9 range. And even a S10 with something in it that ran 10.6.

Your Tacoma IS impressive, but it is never going to be faster than a 4.7 or 5.9, even with the S/C you're still going to get run by a 4.7 who just has CAI/Exhaust/Chip/TB.

my mods -
Homebrew CAI, Jet Stage 2, 50mm ported&polished tb, modded intake manifold, 40 series flowmaster (I like the sound except above 3k rpms), IAT relocated, TPS mod

It passes on the highway, it runs in snow, and it hauls. The transmission never slips, and I leave 2 black marks about 150ft down the road. I love my dak, and nothing can beat the looks/reliability. Oh, and the Nissan titans look mad hot, I wanna see somebody take on their 5.4.

I just got done going to the parts store and back during the rain and with flooded streets.
Got to test out my new 255-65 16 A/T tires. They are all terrain but have a more street friendly tread.
Now that the initial slick-as-sh*t film is burned off I am starting to notice on dry I've got better traction than the originals and on the rain I had improved traction as well. Great stopping too. As long as I don't hit the gas too hard it's fine. A few times I threw mine into 4HI for the f*ck of it and blazed out of the hole. That part is awesome when it's raining. It really shoves you into the seat because I can hook up better in the rain in 4HI than I can on dry pavement in 2HI.

Oh. One more thing. Toyotas can last, they're ok for what they are. But I just love the performance and sound of a V8. I hear too many loud V6 Tacoma's around here. With dual pipes coming out the back even. They never sound good.
Mine is single with a 3 inch FLowmaster 40. Everyone comments on my exhaust. It is awesome at idle and at slow speeds. But I do kind of miss the old school glasspack sound when your at 5~6K RPM's where the Flowmaster almost gets quieter.
When I go true duals, I may go with some GOOD glasspacks or something. That sound with in front of the rear tire exits would be enough to scare women, small childen, and kids in V6 Tacoma's!
