Subject: What is an ISS Front Differential? IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking into changing my gears from 3.55 to 4.11 in my '02QC4x4 4.7, and the guy is asking for the type of differentials I have. He asked if I had an ISS Front differential...? I don't know what that is. I thought they were 9.25" rear and 8.25" front for my truck, not types or names. I know I have the 9.25" rear (12-bolt pattern), and I'm guessing on the 8.25" front since it looks smaller. Any help would be great, thanks!

Message: I'm sure the guy did say IFS as in Independent Front Suspension, and you do have IFS. You may have a DANA 30 or a corporate Chrysler. The DANA is sort of square with rounded corners and has 10 bolts. It will also say DANA on the diff cover. I can't remember what the Chrysler has. I think those are the only two possibilites. Both the 8 1/4 and the 9 1/4 are rear ends. BTY, why do you want to change to 4.11's with a 4X4, that's a bit extreme unless you have big tires or are going to do extensive off roading or drag racing. The towing package comes with 3.92's, so that should be sufficient for most people.
