I have wondered the same thing, but I have a 99. My first thought was that I would need a 4-speed shifter but upon deeper thought a 3-speed is what would be needed with a momentary contact switch on the shifter for the OD engage/disengage. I have ment to get under mine here lately, most use the same type of attachment to the trans, might need to fab a bracket.

i have a B&M shifter in my 98 dakota. It worked just fine with the four speed because. as mentioned before, you only need a switch for forth gear. It's electronic.

You will have to modify the stock shift lever a little bit (nothing a grinder and drill bit cannot fix) and you will need to make a bracket to mount the cable under the truck (to hold the cable sleeve in place so the shifter can pull the inner cable)

6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs

I put a B&M truck megashifter in my '98 this past summer. I called B&M and was told that anything designed to fit a 727 or 904 Torqueflite will bolt right up to an A500. Information correct, It took more time to scribe and fit the B&M console to the hump than it did to install the shifter. I also ordered a B&M shifter handle with the switch in it. It works flawlessly and in ratchet mode you can control the shift points way better than the computer.
