Message: uh, no. Aluminum engine blocks are typically race only, as they don't have the strength of the Iron, imagine having an overheating issue on a daily driver with a aluminum engine.... can you say "warped block" ?

Message: Alum. blocks race only ? Where have you been the last twenty + years.? The ricers have used them for a long time, and now the domestics are also. Ever hear or the GM LS 1, LS 2. Every Vette has had an all alum since approx 1997.

Message: More than 20 years. More like over 40 years in the auto world. The earliest all-aluminum blocks I know of were in the early 60's. Been a while since I read about them so I don't recall the exact years, but Mopar made an aluminum block slant 6 (no cam bearings necessary!!!), and Buick had an aluminum V8 that has found itself in homebuilt aircraft applications in more recent years. Both were at least 40 years ago.
