Subject: Need a strategic plan!! IP: Logged
Message: hey guys, i have a 97 4x4 dakota. I have it lowered and it handles much better now. Now i want to try and build the most rock solid suspension setup that we be good for racing and daily driving. I dont care if the 4wd gets messed up in the process because i am dropping a new transmission in and changing that all out anyways. Has anyone done coil overs all around? Could i do it? ANY advice on a good strong streetable suspension setup would be very helpfull, thanks.

Coil overs should be pretty easy to do, if you've got the money maybe look at fabbed up a-arms too. That will give you great adjustability and save some weight.

Message: I would remove the torsion bars if that was part of the process. There are so many options, i dont want to start ripping stuff apart until i know exactly what i want to do. You think coil overs would be easy to put up front? I think i have some ideas for the back but i guess the front is what im really worried about.

Message: What kind of racing are you doing? If it's drag racing, spend your money somewhere else. Crank up the torsion bars and shift the weight to the rear. Then crank them down for street driving. Takes less than 10 minutes to adjust. Your money is much better spent on the rear suspension.
If it's road racing, fabricate an unequal a-arm, coil-over system. Mustang II systems are very popular with the street rod set. Look in Street Rodder magazine for some ideas.
For any kind of hardball racing, the 4wd system has to go.

Message: what do you mean by hardball racing? Do you know anything about the installation process that the mustang II system would consist of?
I could build the rear pretty tuff, im not really worried about that, the front is just a mess of crap i dont need. Do you have any more in depth info on that mustang system?
