i'm about to do mine and i want to know if i should go with 03/04 or ho intake. what's the deal

Message: what is it that you're after> dont' take that wrong.. I;m actually tuning a Stock intakes runner length now for nitrous injection, drag racing use...
from what I understand, the longer the runner, the lower the RPM HP and Torque Curve peaks out... the shorter, like the M-1 intake peaks much higer, meaning that the bottom end (off Idle really sucks, thats what got me into the Tuning of the stock intake..
The stocks start off from 1500- 2500, with a 16 inch runner... okay, this is long.. screw it.. send me your email and I'll give you two great articles ( entries) that people posted, ( sorry no copyrights! I don't know who postedthem, but they summ it up...
My email is Mattblough78@0aol.com I'll send it too anyone that emails me with a subject of "magnum Intake"..... I'm a Dak Junkie, anyhting that makes it fast for the minimal investment!!!!
2001 R/T 0-60 mph 6.2 seconds (need to get it to a track!!!) ;)

Message: I think they are talking about a 4.7L intake, and I have no clue what the runner length on those is.

Message: One thing I have thought of was making a home made intake. One like some of the newer cars are doing. You have LONG and SHORT runners. A damper seals the short runners until a certain RPM then opens to the SHORT runners. This maxes off line torque and will also provide it to breath at high RPM's.
Only thing is I have never pulled a 4.7 intake off yet. I hear they are o-ringed rather than gaskets. It would be intersting to make the seal on a new intake.
Home made sh*t is the best. Sure you f*ck up at first, but figuring stuff out is awesome compared to paying for something that 50% of the time does nothing anyway!

Which one(s)?
“A damper seals the short runners until a certain RPM then opens to the SHORT runners."
Sounds like it would have to be electronically controlled and progressive. How about a dual plane manifold, with one plane having a set of runners shorter/longer than the other and fed by separate throttle bodies? More complicated or impossible? Maybe, maybe not.

Message: jasonsdakota...
I have researched this issue fairly extensively, I do not know exact lengths but what I can tell you, from the best of my knowledge, the 2000 intake has the longest runner. the 02 h.o. intake has the shortes, and the 03/04 appear to be somewhere in the middle of the other two, thus 2000 has the best low end, the h.o. has the best higher rpm power, and, yep you guessed it, the 03/04 is best in the midrange.
