Subject: Hi PO PCM IP: Logged
Message: I just got my truck back from service from my dealer and was told that I need a new PCM. I was thinking of replacing the stock one with a MOPAR performace PCM. Is it worth making the switch? What are the pros and cons of going to a Hi Po PCM? The stock PCM is $500.00 and the Hi PO PCM was @ $360.00...

Message: You might need premium fuel with the hi-po PCM and might not be able to tow with it. If that's not really what you want, you can probably find a good used stocker at car-part.com for under $100.

Message: You will notice a difference in performance...even more if you start adding stuff like cold air kit, throttle body, and headers..etc..but like kowalski said...depends on if you want to run premium..the mandatory for the hipo. Although i have gotten away a couple timesa this year with 89octane when the prices were just outragous without any detonation.

Message: kowalski,
Hey, I spoke with you before about PCM stuff (Im in MA,too). I took your advice and went to car-parts.com. My question is -How did you know which PCM was right for your truck? They have about 25 listed for my 01 QC 4.7. Do the PCMs need to be specific for 4x4 or airbags? The descriptions of each were so varied and vague. Can you provide any insite??

Message: When I looked, some were listed vaguely, others had more detail. I found one specific for my year, 4x4, auto, and Calif ? emissions. Not sure if they call it Cal emissions or something else - one option is federal, that's not us, we have the alternative. Don't worry about the air bags. The year and transmission would be important; not sure if 4x4 actually makes a difference, or emissions. You could try to tell them you'd like to be able to return it if its not compatible with your truck. There's one combination that can be problematical - if donor or receiving truck has factory alarm - but I forget which.

Message: RIGHT! forgot about the alarm issue...Thanks for the input Kowalski. I think Im picing one up to have KB flash it and save my stock one for inspections, etc.
Do you know I also read about some daks having a speed limiter on them...??

Message: Good idea -just make sure it works well in your truck before paying to have it flashed. I did it kind of backwards - had the stock one flashed but I'm off warranty any way. My speed limiter's now set to 256 - that's another thing to check out. Think lowest limits (there's at least 3 possibilities stock) are on some QCs, and might be a problem for some to raise if its the lowest one ? So you might not want a PCM from a QC if this is a problem, check with whatever company you're going with.
