99 Dakota CC w/ 318, only thing ever done to it is change the oil, and i only do that at 6,000 mile intervals. There are plenty of people who have great dodges that never have any probs. Its just they dont feel the need to post saying "My Dodge Runs Great After 5 Yrs!", but if it would make you feel better, i can start that post and show you how many people are completely satisfied with their dakotas.

Also, this is a Dakota "ENTHUSIAST" site, if you want to down dodge, go to a chevy site, im sure that they would love to here your whining there. And while your there, you can listen in to how much more whining they do about their hunks of junk.

Oh, I don't know, they seem to make both great looking and great running, dependable trucks. What's the problem with that?

Kevin I'm not going to put you down here, because possibly you do have a bad truck or like most just bad luck with any vehicle, however if you don't mind, I would like to know just a couple of things regarding your truck...

First of all what all have you modded on your R/T???

What all has broken and had to be replaced / and at what mileage interval did it tear up at???

What is your maintenance and driving habit???

Finally what kind of oils are you using??? "Well I guess that would fall under maintenance, but ol' well"

If you don't mind answering these, I would appreciate it, and I'm kinda curious anyway how to get the high hp that your getting or rather what all you had to do to get that kind of hp...

Thanks,
Greg

Wow..this guy really knows how to push ppls buttons. But honeslty..if he has such little faith in dodge and the reliability..then why did he sink money into his R/T to supposedly hit 381rwhp?? Sounds like a lot of B.S. one way or the other!! I have 100,000 on the body..and 60,000 on everything else on my truck..and it runs great. Kevin..you have your opinion..you stated it..lets move on.

It is my daily driver, work is 6 miles round trip
Driving habit is 10 MPG that should tell you how I drive. I change the oil every 3K

Freeze plugs huh?? What were you using for coolant?? Did you use tap water to dillute the antifreeze?? There are plenty of reasons for that failure!! As for the 4wd light...they are called "idiot lights" for a reason. Seeing as you are also using WAY over priced GS motorsports stuff...you must have trusted the truck enough to sink that kinda money into it. Ohh and by the way who did all the work on your truck..both performance..and repair??

So really the only thing that has torn up on your truck are the freeze plugs rusting out and the minor 4x4 light coming on??? The light is probably due to a loose sensor of some sort and if you have all wheel antilock, it's more than likely a loose or possibly some dirt in the teeth wheel speed sensor on one of your front wheels... This will happen to all makes of vehicles and most of the time it's something minor like the dirt and then sometimes you have to replace the faulty sensor...

If those are truly the only things that have broken on your truck, I personally wouldn't be complaining due to all the extra stress the added performance plus the short miles driven every day... The short miles also may be part of the reason as to why your freeze plugs went simply because 6 miles "round trip" is nowhere near enough to really get that high hp motor warmed up and functioning at it's proper specs... A lot of people think that they are "babying" something when in fact the short miles and so forth are more than likely the early doom of the motor, trans, and soforth... It's better to drive 100 miles every day than to drive 10 miles every day...

Your R/T is 4 wheel drive??? You must have one of the few... How much would you be looking at saling it for since your are looking into getting rid of it???

The anti freeze mixture was what DODGE used from day one. I never diluted or added water. Never needed to. The manufacture guide line want the first drain at 36k. BUT, ACCORDING TO ALL YOU DODGE EXPERT I SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED MY FREEZE PLUGS TO ROT OUR AT 26K BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE 26K AND A SUPERCHARGER. AGAIN EXPERTS, EXPLAIN HOW A SUPERCHARGER CORRODED MY FREEZE PLUGS, I FORGOT, OR ANYTHING ELSE I ADDED FOR THAT MATTER. AS FAR A BABING GOES I AM AVERAGING 10 MILES PER GALLON. THAT IS NOT BABING. FURTHER MORE, SINCE MY FRIEND HAS A DYNO MY R/T IS ON IT A LOT. I HAD IT TO THE SPEED LIMITER ON 10 PASSES IN A ROW ON MONDAY ALONE. But I am over all that and so should you, At least I have brass plugs where the rest of you still have galvanized. I hope they don't fail on a road trip far from home because the tranny haS to come out for the repair. I can see the mastercard commercial now, Far from home, no money, no mechanic and kevin's voice in your head.... damn freeze plugs.......priceless

Okay dude......my turn on this

number one: Shut up already. every car has problems.

number two: how do u expect that you can take a car, add a whole lot of mods that the manufacturer did not design it for, and hope it runs as well as stock?

number three: how can you expect that running a supercharger AND Jet chip isnt going to turn ur engine into poop. I could take a lawnmower and bump it up to ohhh......lets say 313 RWHP, but why???

number four: i farted, good day to you. Im gonna go ride in my Dodge with 130,000 miles.

(tips hat) Here at the WB.

I am not saying the supercharger affected the plugs..nor am i saying that you should expect to change the plugs at 26k...but who in the heck told you that the trans has to be pulled to fix the plugs?? Again i ask you who does your work both your OVERPRICED GS Motorsports performance(?) stuff as well as your general repairs?? If you MR. BILLY BADASS dyno..performance god..that maybe you know..that sometimes SH*T happens!! and nothing in this world is perfect...get this..even car manufacturers aren't perfect nor is every part they make!! Sell your pile of sh*t..and get off the board!! Go buy something else..from another manufacturer and post on there board on how you can't seem to find a big enough tampon to fit in your mouth!!

and why would you put a supercharger and all the stuff on a motor that had stuff mess up on it at only 26k?? Or if you put it on before the plugs went..then that means you would have had to mess with the antifreeze(after adding the 2.02 heads)..please help us understand your reasoning.
Thank you and have a great day!!

Let's see what's going on here....

1. You didn't put heads on without messing with the factory fill of coolant. Sorry man, but it ain't possible. I think you've pinpointed your problem...

You guys must be slow. DODGE has 2 f r e e z e p l u g s b e t w e e n t h e t r a n n y a n d e n g i n e. They only way to change them is dropping the tranny. The jet chip came out when the charger went in. DUH! The heads where just put on after the freeze plug dabacle. DUH.
I do know about engines and my dyno buddy has a degree in mechanicle engineering and does this for a living.. He is far more qualified to tune my truck than probably 95% of the other idiots out there. My truck runs great. Better than stock and the freeze plug problem did not hurt the engine at all for it happend right outside my house and 1 mile to the mechanic who fixed it. I can't argue with you mentally challenged people anymore. When you get up to speed, let me know. GOODBYE until another problem. THE LAST WORD!

The head subject does bring up very interresting points!!! I'm betting you just drained out enough antifreeze to get down below head level then added more water back to the mix, than you did antifreeze...

SIDE NOTE ---

Jet chip advances timing, if you retarded the timing just how did you go about doing it??? Hopefully it wasn't the distributor because that means that you've retarded the fuel sync, which means that your getting a whole lot of air and little fuel into those cylinders... This means that your running extremely lean, which could also explain why your freeze plugs rusted, because of the hot spots forming in the heads allowing air pockets and initially speeding up corrosion in the cooling system... I know it sounds far fetched, but just stop to think about it!!!

You really should have called up superchips and had them design up a program for your system... Also should have changed tstat to 180 to lower detonation due to hot spots "each 5 degree drop is like adding 1 octane point to your fuel and the dodges perform the best at 182 degrees", not to mention degreed and gapped your plugs... Have you even pulled your plugs to see if they're burning correctly after the high energy ignition system install??? Because if not correct and gap is too close, it will also cause the cylinders to run leaner and hotter... Gapping and degreeing of the plugs has shown an 8hp increase in big blocks alone...

OH AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO YELL, I WAS JUST TRYING TO POINT OUT A COUPLE OF THINGS IS ALL AND YOU GO AND GET ALL CRANKY!!!

I had a 94' 3.9 liter v-6 dakota that never gave me any problems I traded it in about a year ago. And bought a 2002 dodge dakota R/T. Oh and my old dakota had between 85 and 90k miles on it and I drove it about as hard as I could without getting pulled over everytime I drove it.

As for my Dakota R/T when I try to use my Hypertech programmer for 93 octane gas and I punch it, it makes a ting or knocking sound. A friend of mine told me that it was something called spark knocking (whatever that is). Other than not using that part of the programmer what can I do to stop that from happening again?

Like i said before you don't think that it's a possibility that DODGE got a batch of bad freeze plugs?? Do you think DODGE is the only ones to ever have that happen?? Did you ever think you are one in few cases?? DUH DUH DUH DUh DUH?!!! You and your butt buddy dyno guy must not have to high of a degree to buy GS motorsports stuff anyways!! Again..take your piece of sh*t truck..and go post somewhere else!!
