Subject: 5.2L Homebrew Filter IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a '98 rc Dakota w/ a 5.2L. It has a home brew intake system with a K&N Filter. The way this guy made the intake, the pipe runs all the way to the fender and the filter is actually inside the fender well. He said the reason for this is to keep the filter out of the hot engine compartment so that it gets cooler outside air which makes sense but is there enough air flowing through the fender to really make this system work at its best potential or should I shorten the pipe so that the filter is close to the fender but not actually inside and remove the peice of rubber from the passenger side to let more outside air into the engine bay?

Message: There is actually great air flow inside the fender. The cowl below the widshield creates a pressure difference and the air is directed into the fender well. That is why the stock air box has the snorkel on it pulling air from the fender. It should get plenty of air and stay cleaner in there.
