I am considering switching. I have a 2000 R/T CC w/ the kenne bell setup. I run Mobile 1 10w30 and have done so for the 23k miles I have on it. I was wondering what you would suggest for a switch.

The AMSOIL SDF-42 is the most common filter for the 91'-03'
Dakota V-6 and V-8.

The AMSOIL 0w-30, 5w-30 and 10w-30 are all great choices.

Make sure you switch the tranny and diffs. to AMSOIL too.

Makes one heck of a difference!

No ... not in my opinion and not the opinion of other users.

For most Dakotas, Amsoil recommends either Amsoil SAE 5w-30, 10w-30, or Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 Synthetic Motor Oil.

The most common oil recommendation for the Dodge Dakota is:

Amsoil SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil

(1) quart bottle - $5.85 (Retail)

(1) gallon bottle - $22.80 (Retail)

(12) quart bottles - $69.00 (Retail)

Amsoil Preferred Customer (wholesale) price is $4.55 per quart ... more than 20% savings and that is typical across the board. This is the oil that I use and often recommend for the Dodge Dakota.

__________________________________________________

The following is Amsoil's most expensive oil.
This is also recommended for the Dodge Dakota, however this is NOT the one I usually recommend which I will explain later in this post.

Amsoil SERIES 2000 - SAE 0W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil

(1) quart bottle - $8.35 (Retail)

(1) gallon bottle - $31.55 (Retail)

(12) quart bottles - $99.00 (Retail)

Again ... if you choose this oil ... Amsoil Preferred Customer Pricing is a lot less!
__________________________________________________

Either oil is recommended for most Dakotas.

Amsoil SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oils are excellent oils and have shown to be almost the same quality as the Series 2000. Most visitors to this site know how I feel about Amsoil Series 2000. IMHO ... Amsoil 10w-30 gives you the best bang for $$$, and it is the oil I use.
__________________________________________________

Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 is the more shear stable of the two Amsoil formulations (SAE vs. Series 2000). The Series 2000 also reduces friction (better gas mileage -- fuel savings of approx 2%-3% in comparison to the 10w-30 in short trip driving), protects from heat and wear better, better engine cleanliness than the 5w-30 and 10w-30 due to higher detergency, better cold weather performance --- in any high performance application, --- and will provide the lowest oil consumption in older vehicles that are experiencing oil consumption problems.

Special note: Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 can be used to in place of 5w-20/5w-30/10w-30 oils. I'd even recommend it in engines that come with 0w-40 or 5w-40 grades.

Either oil is fine. I use the less pricey of the two. If you drive your truck "hard" --- you might be happier with your choice of the Series 2000.

FYI - New Engines or Rebuilt Engines

Regarding the use of AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils in brand new or rebuilt engines, it is recommended, however not mandatory, that the motor be initially operated with petroleum oil up to its first normal drain interval. The advantages of doing this are as follows.

New engines or engine components generate high wear metals to begin with and may contain debris from machining and assembly. It is more beneficial to allow these wear metals to collect in an inexpensive motor oil than to circulate throughout the crankcase for extended periods in a synthetic motor oil. By operating the vehicle to its first drain interval with a petroleum oil, these wear metals and manufacturing debris collect in the oil and are then flushed out of the crankcase when drained. This allows for a much cleaner operating environment for the synthetic lubricant.
