Subject: magnum 380 engine swap
IP: Logged

Message:
hello,
i have a 1995 Mark III dakota sport, and am wondering if anyone has swaped an engine before.
i want to put a magnum 380 in my 318's place. what other parts would i need to make this swap?
would my stock tranny handle it. will it all fit together easily or will other mods need to be done? will the stock radiator cool it? will my alternator and other accessories mount right on?

thanks, darryn

contact KRC performance. These guys can advise you what's involved. There should not be too many issues with this swap since the blocks are virtually the same. KRC offers some short/long block options that may be better for your application than the Mopar crate engines.

No, you do not want to put that engine in your truck. I say that because if you are wondering about stock trannies, you must be looking at this as a street-driven vehicle. The way the 380hp/360 is set up, it's rather nasty. It has a drag-racing attitude, is not at all computer-friendly, and most of the guys who go for this engine in their older non-computerized cars wind up changing the cam and intake to have a more civilized experience. Mopar does offer an MPI 360 crate engine, a much better choice for your application, and your accessories will bolt onto it. The tranny would benefit from a heavy-duty rebuild with a quality kit.
