Subject: hi flow dual inlet cat
IP: Logged

Message:
does anyone know of a high flow cat with dual inlets like my 99 r/t? i have pph headers and it ties into the inlets about 1 inch before the cat where it bottlenecks down to 1-1/2". its a shame that the crossover pipes were so small on the 5.9, i was supprised when i crawled under it. i put it on the lift and instaled the headers with the 2-1/2" pipes and i would like to take full advantage of the flow, and get rid of the bottleneck. i know they make single inlet hi flow cats, but i would need a y pipe then, i was wondering what would be easier and you guys reccomend. anyone have my situation before? thanks

The configuration of the cats is federally mandated. You cannot change the configuration. Also, if the vehicle has less than 50K miles, you cannot replace the cat unless it is malfunctioning. That makes no sense, but there it is.

So, if you have a single in and single out, you must replace it with the same thing. Fortunaly, you can get a universal cat from Summit Racing that is single in, single out, 3" pipes, for about $50.

Didn't you poke a hole in the stock CAT going over a railroad track? Damn, then it needs to be replaced. Buy a new High Flow Cat with 3" inlet and outlet about 18" long for about $$139.50 and replace the defective stock cat. See how easy that is. And it is 100% legal to replace a defective or DAMAGED CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

And a decent muffler shop will build you a new 'Y' and install the new cat for Like $150 or less.
