Hey, I've seen pictures of the viper v-10 in the dakota, but has anyone ever heard of anyone dropping one of the 8.0L's that came in the Ram's? The one's that weren't all aluminum? I've got a Dak with a 6 cyl and it's really getting old and worn and would like to attempt this because it appears to be the easiest, with motor mounts and exhaust manifolds in the same place. Any help anybody could offer would be great. Thanks!

They are very heavy, would need good support and lift to hold them. just go with a big block or built 360

Well I wouldn't use the Ram V10 if I was going to use a heavy duty engine I would put a 6cyl cummins in the dak, it's been done before but it is very expensive and difficult to do. If I were you I would go with either a 340 if you have the money, a 360 if you want to be conservative or a 440 if you want to have a lot of grunt down low.

a 440 would have lots of grunt down low, but i think big blocks in dakotas are just way to heavy. a well built 360 is a lot lighter (good for performance) and can make plenty of power. Don't think bigger and more powerful, think lighter and faster.

A built 440 with alluminum heads, valve covers, intake and H2O pump and pump housing, with headers would be pretty close in wieght to a stock iron head, iron exh. manifolded 360.

Ditch the front bumper in favor of a fiberglass one if you're worried about extra weight. Could even transplant the battery under the bed with a custom rack, freeing up more room as a bonus.
