Message: I have an '01 QC 4x4 w/ 5.9L and 3.92s. I'm looking for the best bang for the buck in mods for performance and mileage. I already have a K&N Gen II to put on, what else would you recommend for bolt ons. You guys seem to have a good grip on these things. Thanks in advance! Brian

Message: Catback will help you get the full benifit of the cold air intake and is fairly inexspensive. It will also make em all turn around and take notice when the hear you cruisin by. My first mod was a real free flowing rumbling catback. The next will be cold air intake and some computer PCM upgrade. I still have no idea what is the best solution for an upgrade. Seems to be a number of people getting flashes but I want a whole computer I can swap in and out so I don't have to do the 2 hour return commute everyday running supreme.
However if I were you I would to the Catback first for this is positive for mileage, image and performance a PCM is not good for milage.

Message: You might squeeze and extra mpg or two out of her if you put a tonneau cover on.
Maybe a 180 tstat so she runs a little cooler.
You're on the right track anyway!

Message: I just installed the MSD-6A ingnition control. The vehicle run noticably better: more power, better throttle response; even w/ the stock coil. About $130, from Checker Auto.

Message: Thanks for the help guys. Do the TB spacers do much for power or mileage? How much are they and where's a good place to get them? thx

Message: throttle body spacers on a fuel injected engine is a total and complete waste of money.

Message: The TB Spacers are garbage on the 3.9/5.2/5.9L engines...but they do work well on the 4.7L. (Different intake system. Not as restrictive and not as many bends as the "Beer-Barrel" intake manifolds.)

Message: Speaking of the TB spacer on the 4.7L, does any one have real proof or dyno numbers on it?

Message: No dyno #'s on mine yet but there IS more torque at the rear. The spacer seems to make more torque to me than HP but that is what I want anyway. Can feel it most when you get the rpm's up a little to around 2500 on.

Message: Now the question is what's the best setup:
1. TB Spacer
2. Aftermarket TB
3. Both

We'll find out in a few more weeks. Matt Barrett is going to be Dyno testing the Flometrics Billet TB (and I believe with and without a spacer as well).
He's about the most consistent 4.7L person I know. Baseline Dyno sheets, time sheets from the track, etc.
